Happy day in Virginia

It is rare that a corrupt politician even gets tried for corruption, no less convicted. We need to do more of this

Quote:

Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen were convicted Thursday on a range of corruption charges in connection with gifts and loans they accepted from a wealthy businessman, marking a stunning fall for the onetime rising Republican star.

A federal jury in Richmond convicted Bob McDonnell, 60, of 11 of the 13 counts he faced; Maureen McDonnell was convicted of nine of the 13 counts she had faced.

Regardless of political affiliation, it is good news when corrupt politicians are held responsible. Too bad this does not happen more often. One down, probably hundreds to go.

This is even more shocking considering the lax corruption laws we have in Virginia.

If we tried and convicted every corrupt politician, there would be a lot of empty State houses of Govt, and the capital building in DC would be in the same shape, lol We could rent out all the empty spaces to businesses and use that money to pay off our debt!:D

I like to think that there are some politicians that are not corrupt. I am sure statistically, there must have been one. But it is hard to imagine one these days. :nope:

I personally know one politician who is not corrupt. Then again, he has not been able to be elected to office yet. Maybe a correlation there.

I used to live halfway between Quantico and Fort Belvior for 20 years. Used to laugh at all the goofy stuff Marion Barry was doing when he was mayor of DC.:haha:

I don't think it's possible to reach any higher office without being corrupt sadly.

Hey I see an ad for the first time!

Politicians, corruption...never :nope:

Because power corrupts.:shifty:

He had the chance to plea bargain when he was govenor. He would have had to resign, but no trial, he would have walked. Instead he held out thinking he could have the cake and eat it too.

Serves him right especially since he tried to throw the mother of his children under the bus.

Indeed, and this is a well known fact.
However I'd like to throw in something I've been thinking about for quite some time now, and see what you think of it.
I think the psychological profile of a person aspiring to a position of power, means that person aspires to have power over others, he/she sees him/herself as being entitled to rule over others, and living off of others sweat, tears and blood. It follows that such person will have no remorse about robbing those who he/she sees as inferiors.
In other words, most people aspiring to positions of power are selfish, greedy, and inevitably corrupt. People who fight for power only want to satisfy their egos. Very much the profile of a narcissist.

The egg and the chicken.

Interesting point Bruce

Does being a successful politician make a person more prone to corruption
Or do people prone to corruption strive to become politicians?

Political test for the voters.

Mr. or Ms. candidate, do you want to be elected to this office?

Yes I do

Next applicant please!

Every now and again they don't mind feeding one of their own to the dogs.
