Akulas go the mid life repair and refit.
Original article can be found here:
http://bmpd.livejournal.com/971622.html I would partially (and very roughtly) translate it. On 23rd August 2014 the transport vessel Transshelf has taken on board 2 pr. 971M (improved Akula class) submarines of the Pacific Fleet - K391 Bratsk and K295 Samara. At the same time Hai Yang Shi You vessel was loaded with project 949A submarine - K442 Chelyabinsk. The Akulas are to go through a mid life repair and upgrade at Zvezdochka (north), while the Oscar II would go for the upgrade in the Zvezda (far east). Akulas are to receive new electronics, sonar equipment (emphasis mine), weapons systems. Now to the pictures: Note, the Samara can be seen with the dammaged sonar housing this was apparently done by an inert torpedo during an exercise. Now onto the speculation (all mine), what kind of new equipment would they receive? |
