Utah was the first state I lived that had open carry. I have to admit I was a bit surprised the first time I saw this old codger packing a hogleg :yep:

I can understand California and New York banning open carry, but Texas???

We have open carry here in Louisiana. One of my nephews is always packing.

Open carry in NC several times a month

I am just concerned that open carry just advertises what weapon I would be carrying. All it takes is a baddie with a stick and he can "upgrade" easy.

If a baddie sees you with a gun, all that tells him/her is that they need to sneak/sucker attack you from behind.

What if you choose to carry an 8 inch Bowie knife? Bet you'd get busted unless you had a permit for it even in states where no permits are required for a firearm.

One thing I do not like about open carry is it allows a civilian to appear to be a police officer in plain clothes. I could see a wannabe strutting around like he was a cop.

I only open carry in the summer metal detecting....too hot to wear clothes that conceal and I use a shoulder holster, because I bend and squat a lot to dig.....

Maybe I've lived a charmed life, or am just not as paranoid, but I've never even felt the need or desire to carry ever. Sure I own firearms but I'd have to ask someone who breaks into my home to wait while I go get my gun. :woot:

I did not expect Texas to be one of the states that prohibits Open Carry. I thought they'd require a permit at worst.

Take an example from New Yorks finest.
Openly carrying his revolver(as he always does), groceries in one hand keys in the other.
He crosses the parking lot to his truck, he lost the gun the keys and the truck, the nice people who were in the parking lot looking for a victim did allow him to keep the groceries though.

I personally witnessed two people 'open carry' in Texas in 2008.

But was that open carry of an alcoholic beverage?
