A really sad sad story
"A Mills police officer faces an animal cruelty charge following the death of a police dog that he allegedly left in a hot patrol car for several hours."
People just do not realise how quickly temperature in a closed car can rise when left in the sun. I would imagine the officer is completely distraught. Personally I don't think a alarm gizmo is the way to go - it could fail for starters. Here in South Africa the police dogs ride in the back with windows down and security type fencing across the open windows. http://trib.com/news/local/crime-and...f462a3974.html |
:-? He should be sentenced to spend the same amount of time in the back of the patrol car under the same conditions.:nope:

This is a hard one to call because it happened to an ex-colleague of mine whilst I was in the station with him...he kept receiving urgent matters that needed his attention and his mind was constantly distracted as a consequence.
No charges were brought but he declined working in the dog section after that. |
What a terrible way to die. :nope:

Most K-9 units I have ever seen have a specially modified rear seat with gates behind the windows even without air conditioning the dog probably would not get too hot.
I bet the guy simply forgot to roll the windows down. Of course why not simply take the dog inside the station with you?:hmmm: It is your partner after all you'd not leave a two legged partner behind. |
