Type XXI Radar Destroyed?
As soon as I load up my first patrol in a type XXI from Bergen, I instantly receive a message, "Radar Damaged!" followed by "Radar Destroyed!". I don't use it anyway but I was wondering why this happens? Im using GWX 3.0 Gold.
|
I played stock SH3 and when I got my type XXI, the very same thing happened. Choked me up too because I could have saved those renown points for new torpedos or whatever.
I think the game wasn't expecting anyone to get that far and they (the programmers) didn't do their jobs properly. Rather than let you have a working radar system, they just "destroyed" it to preserve the integrity of the game. If anyone else has a more accurate answer regarding the instant failure of a brand new system even before leaving port, I would also like to know... |
I believe, in GWX 3.0 one has to follow a special procedure to install a late war radar antenna ...

From the GWX manual, on page 70:

Thanx jimbuna. It turns out i didnt need radar as i have sunk 3 Escorts of various types, 1 Bogue Class Aircraft Carrier, HMS Howe, 1 Schuka Class Submarine and 1 Modern Tanker for 66893 GRT. This Type XXI is really something else. If the Germans had this even a year earlier the ocean would be a dangerous place for anyone not on Germany's side

Rgr that.

Yup, the Type XXI makes war fun again. :)
Load that sucker up with homing torpedoes and it's "game on"! :D With 17 knot underwater speed you can play slalom inside the convoys while dodging escorts. Hardest part is not getting your scope shot at! :) Steve |
On my very next patrol I stumbled across a convoy 200km NW of Rockall and to say I bugged out is an understatement. It had 20 escorts of all different types. They still detected me and despatched a hunter killer group from the 20 units despite disengaging with plenty of time. The very first set of hedgehogs took out the forward batteries without any other damage. Not even hull damage. I knew then I was doomed. I lasted 3 hours before the hull damage was too great to stay submerged but I was too deep to do anything about it. The sea killed us in the end. I decided that the game had cheated me and to disregard the death. The destroyers were pyschic as well. I cant understand how my batteries could be completely destroyed with out a scratch on the hull. I play GWX but I have the hull integrity display visible. I feel like the game engine assasinated me. Whether you agree with that Im not sure but the whole sorry saga seemed a little unrealistic and far too hard. I may as well of scuttled the boat on the first ping.

Some players cheat.
Why shouldn't the game try to get even? :har: You were merely today's lucky recipient. :/\\!! |

I started a career in April 1944, which seems to be the earliest date the XXI is available. As the OP stated, when the game starts, the radar is immediately destroyed. From the manual, it states for the XXI at (B) that it is automatically installed. I do not attempt to mount any sensors when first starting, but the radar still dies. I've attempted adding the mod, which I understand is for the VII and IX only, but the same happens at the start of the patrol. I then suspected it might be that it hits something in the bunker, so I had my patrol started out at sea, but the antenna is still destroyed. Any advice or suggestions would be awesome. Would be great to use the boat to her full potential. My mod list is: GWX - 16km Atmosphere GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects GWX - Integrated Orders GWX - English Nav Map and Grid Refs GWX - No Medals on Crew GWX - Open Hatch Mod GWX - Main Movie - 'Das Boot' GWX - Open Hatch Mod GwX - VIIC41 Player Sub Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71 OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX OLC GUI 1.2.7 Core Files DoubleMastValues Steam version of SH3 GWX3 |
I'm sorry but I can't add anything else to the advice quoted at #4

Is it possible you have an additional third party mod that is causing some kind of conflict? |

I've removed some of the environmental and flavour mods, but it still seems to happen. I doubt it's something inherently flawed in GWX. It's without a doubt the greatest modification of any game that's been published. (Close second would be DSfix for Dark Souls.) Most likely I've done something wrong. The only real thing I'd want to work is the RWR, to drop snorkel and dive, but it's not an utter disaster. I will make a clean install with just stock GWX and see if that makes any difference. If it does, I will post my findings. |
I see Open Hatch installed twice and no Late War sensors.
:hmmm: |
Thanks Jeff I never noticed the Open Hatch Mod and obviously the Late War Sensors was advised in #4 and quoted again in #11 :arrgh!:

Some feedback.
Decided to only leave stock GWX 3 Gold. The radar still gets destroyed. Enabled late war sensors, start a new campaign, it still gets destroyed. I tested using the single XXI mission, it still gets destroyed. Then it got worse. I figured it will be best to start from a clean slate. Disable all mods, removed JSGME, and the mods folder. Uninstalled SH3cmdr and it's GWX files. Reinstalled SH3 from steam, as I did last time, then GWX 3. Unfortunately GWX refuses to install. It complains about either SH3 not being updated to 1.4, which it is, or there being mods present which is impossible. I trashed all remnants of the previous installation and cleared any traces from the registry. I am not sure whether the pre installation check's error report to the client distinguishes between different problems. E.g. I point the installer to the correct directory for SH3, then receive that mods are detected. Then I change it to a blank directory, and the error still claims mods are present. Thus, I am confused about the criteria that it needs to be happy with before starting the installation. I will start a new thread if I can't get past this issue tonight. |
