Patches
On another thread someone mentioned H.sie so I searched and found http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181352 , which mentions a certain patch to fix some of the vexing problems with SH3.
Is this patch compatible with GWX? Is there a specific installation order? Would I need to roll GWX back, do the patch, and then re-GWX? Any other information would be greatly appreciated. |

Neither V16B1-Patch-Kit nor Stiebler4B_V16B1_Revised is a simple mod which you can drop into JSGME and activate. Both require that you modify some text files and perform a few more steps to create a patched sh3.exe. You only have to do this setup once. After that, you activate the patched files with JSGME. The setup is brief and the step-by-step procedure is carefully documented. But, if you are an absolute novice with editing text files and moving/copying files in Windows, you might want to read the documentation and decide whether you want to proceed. The setup instructions and the answers to all your questions are found in h.sie's excellent documentation Readme_V16B1.pdf. You can download it here http://www.mediafire.com/download/jl...adme_V16B1.pdf without having to download the rest of the patcher. I strongly recommend you read it carefully so you understand what the patcher will add to your game and what you will have to do to make it work in your installation. |

have you ever read the "ReadMe" from h.sie or Stiebler? Or ever read the "license EMEA xx.txt" from Ubisofts' SH3? Than you would know why this is made in that way! We modder are walking on a Knifeedge borderline between legal and illegal, just tolreated by Ubisoft. But the distribution of core files like EXE, DLL, ACT and so is absolutly illegal. So it would be better if you think twice before posting such questions. And BTW - since months you are no longer a member of the "LSH3 Developer Team" but you are still using their signatur. That's unfair and signaling a untruth message to the unexperienced user of subsim-forums. In the sense of correctness: delete this part of your signatur. Greetings rowi58 |

I think BLITZKRIEG may not be suggesting anything out of line. Not distributing a patched sh3.exe (no-no), but a H.sie_&_Stiebler_Patcher.EXE, an executable which would perform all the functions the user has to do now to set up JSGME-compatible folder. In principle, it would patch the user's sh3.exe, avoiding any problems of distributing proprietary code. It could do all the file-editing and copying of the user's files. Such a project would be far more work than I am interested in doing, and might not ever be completely universal, but it could be useful to those who find the setup onerous. And AFAIK, that approach wouldn't be naughty.

Yes, it would. As Rowi explained, doing it for yourself is between you and your computer. Releasing something that does it for the user is very much illegal. That is why h.sie and Stiebler were so very careful with the way they did things.
And that is as far as this conversation needs to go. Quote:

BL!TZKR!EG forums are made for an open, clear and fair diskussion. That's the reason why i DO NOT USE PM! And i will never change my opinion about this. Greetings rowi58 |
I may be wrong about the patcher and what it does. I'm currently seeking a ruling from on high. In the meantime I would appreciate it if the discussion would stay with the question asked by the OP.
As for the discussion about people's sigs and who did what to whom, this particular fight has gone on long enough. Please keep your personal differences private. |
I have decided not to install the patch.
