Escape button not working

So I've never had this happen before. Middle of a patrol and I can't access my escape menu. I'm playing in windowed mode if that helps at all.

I'm picking up a few problems with the mouse, but find flipping to another screen then back again gets rid of it.

Could be Win7 and running under XP compatibility.

Compatibility mode doesn't make a difference either way, and I've noticed that as soon as it appears it remains as a problem until I restart my computer entirely.

Does this happen with other games too? I've noticed the same issue with MS Flight SImulator and then carrying over to SH3.

I always play FSX in windowed mode actually, frequently tabbing on long hauls to other windows. Never had the issue, but to be honest I rarely ever use the escape button in FSX and haven't been playing SH3 at the same time.

So its possible but I haven't had a chance to correlate those two games and this bug.

This is a very obnoxious bug because it makes you paranoid. Gotta save often incase you lose all your progress! I think the first time I get this bug after getting a Knight's Cross worthy attack in that has to be rolled back I might not play SH3 for a month.

Out of curiosity, is possible to bind the Escape key's command to another button or a clickable spot in the GUI like with everything else? Putting the escape menu on some rivet I can click somewhere in say the Obs Scope or something would make this problem a non issue.
