Which ASW Aeroplanes are you most fearful of?
I got pounced on by a Liberator approaching the Caribbean and I was surprised by the tenacity of it. It had no fewer than 4 runs at us despite having evaded him in time. I was wondering which aeroplane type(s) you are most likely to dread the sight of? Mine is the liberator at the moment. I shoot swordfish and kingfishers down for fun but anything else I get under sharpish.

Is all of them acceptable as a response?

I don't dread the sight of any airplane. If my watch calls out "Aircraft spotted!" I dive NOW!

I suppose your responses are fair enough but if you were caught out (as i was in this case no metox detection) which plane would you it rather not be.

Correct, abnormal ahead and alarm diving (which sounds awesome with boot sound mod) for two reasons...first, the realistic one of course...and second because of a KI bug in SHIII...i was attacked by two planes off the coast of Brest and tryed to shoot them down because of shallow waters but my crew only attacked one plane, the second one the totally ignored...before i realised it...i was hit and deck crew dead... |

Of all things, K-ships. That gas bag isn't a hitzone.

Yeah I just engaged my first K-ship, thinking such a large, slow target would be a piece of cake. What a waste of time. My crew AAA poured into it, and I even put a dozen shots into it with the deck gun. When they got me down to 27% hull integrity I gave up.

My most feared aircraft is probably the B24 or the Wellington bombers.
Mostly because their ammunition capacity is higher and they don't mind wasting shots on you, if they think that they can sink you. That said, I have had trouble with the smaller fighter bombers, the hurricanes or P38s, even the odd sunderland, from time to time, but if the seas are flat and the weather is clear, I man the AA guns whenever I get a chance. In my current campaign, I have successfully shot down 2, B24s. One we hit a few times, started an engine fire, and after I crash dove (because it didn't look like we were doing much more than wasting ammo), it finally succumbed to its damage and crashed into the sea. The second, my AA crew shot down while I was looking at the charts table. Good men! |
