Japanese survivors
 

So we're on patrol in the Solomons Slot in AUG '42 at radar depth in broad daylight when an air battle develops overhead. Japanese contingent was a formation of about twenty Bettys; three of which got splashed. Never did see any US fighters.
We surfaced after the skies cleared to find half a dozen Japanese airmen floating and waving nearby. We approached several, but the rescue icon never illuminated so couldn't pick them up. Just there for color I guess. In R/L they would almost never allow rescue.

Actually Japanese sailors and airmen were rescued by American submarines. That is how the Americans got some of their intellgence.

Read Thunder Below by Admiral Eugene Fluckley of the USS Barb, lots of great stuff regarding this. They did what merc said, and picked up Allied survivors as well, including many downed US Airmen.

I wonder if it could be modded to pick them up. I had the idea to make missions where you rescued people escaping from land on rafts as subs did. I got help from Trav and we got where you could use the rescue icon to rescue people on rafts with renown, course the entire raft vanished when you rescued, but no big deal.....

Armistead it might be nice to work it so your given missions in career mode to rescue escaping personel. Have different islands and different numbers of rafts to rescue. Make it so if you miss one or are unable to make it to the rendevous you loss renown because your delay caused their capture or deaths.

It actually worked good. You can set special missions to PU like other missions.
I made a few to test it and used a lot of triggers to make it difficult, spawning sub killer groups to come searching for you. You do have to add the missions and traffic based on each mod.

Be nice to pic up some spies you dropped off or save a bunch of nurses or even haul Gen Mac to safety..

Now there's one for the wish list!

Yes, "Mush 'em" with your 20's - or 40, or as in the above screen cap by captgeo..... except US torpedoes were in short supply early in the War.
