[REQ] Assistance with Zoom Levels on Nav and Attack Maps and Textures

Hi folks,

I am wanting some assistance regarding adjusting zoom levels on both maps. I am playing around with a modified real navigation mod and have come across a mod in SH3 that basically took away your ability to cheat and zoom in on your sub for the Navigation Map.

I know how to remove all aspects of the sub in normal nav map views, but not when zoomed in.

I am looking at applying something similar to SH4. I have searched older threads and did come across an old mod ( that did this ) for SH4 but the links are dead and I have had no luck contacting the former author. This is the thread:Here

The SH3 Mod adjusts lines in the Maps.cfg, but those values do not work very well in 4.

Here is what part of it looks like in 4:

[Map0]
MapID=Navigation_map
Position=0,0
Resolution=1024,768
MajorSqrs=4,3
MinorSqrs=5,5
PixPerUnit=50
ZoomLevels=1,2,5,10,20,50,100,200,500,1000,2000,40 00,10000,20000;,40000; meters per pixel <-------------- this line.
InitialZoom=500
SymbolZoom=10;units are drawn as symbols from this zoom up
GroupsZoom=100;units are drawn in groups from this zoom up
CityZoomLow=1000;low priority city names are displayed from this zoom down
CityZoomMedium=4000;medium priority city names are displayed from this zoom down
KriegZoom=2000;krieg labels are separated displayed from this zoom up
HarborZoom=50;harbors will be displayed from this zoom up

Any thoughts would be appreciated :yep:

Thanks :)

I would be careful in changing much with that line.

I remember changing those "ZoomLevels" for RFB (v1.5 or something like that) and finding the harbor overlays for the various ports will become off centered. The harbor will either appear on land, or too far out in the water. Best to not change much with them. :D

Might want to try the "SymbolZoom" parameter for what you're trying to do.

Thanks CS : )

In my travels I have seen the "SymbolZoom" parameter, I will have a look at it again.

Still curious though on how the lad in SH3 got his mod to work using the
Zoom Levels :hmm2:

Question regarding the below screenshot ( when you zoom into the sub on the Nav Map ):

Have looked and cannot seem to find it :doh:

AH, that's an image very near and dear to me!! Looks like your running some version of RFB.

I put that image together, along with the Nomograph that's displayed there. The sub image is found in the Data/Submarine/NSS_subname/NSS_subname_shp.dds file. There's one for every sub used in-game. The bearing overlay is in the Alpha part of the image. Back in those days, I figured all resolutions/aspect ratios would render images equally, for all resolutions. Wrong...they won't. That's why the total bearing distance won't add up to the correct distance if you pull out the ruler to measure over the bearing image. That bearing tool only works for the 1280x1024 resolution (my computer monitor size I play with). It won't accurately measure distance on any other resolution used in-game. :timeout:

That's why I made so many different 3000 yard/meter Bearing Tools in the "Downloads" section of this forum. No two are a like!!

Thanks CS : )

In doing some research ( last hour or so ) regarding this I came across some of your posts. You have done some great work with SH4.
