USS Cavalla: Lucky Lady's Famous First Patrol
There was a program back in 1957-58 called the Silent Service. Here's the episode that centers on USS Cavalla. It's very accurate--Capt. Kossler was ordered to report any enemy task force before attacking. They were to take no chances that they may be counter attacked and sunk--they must report. As history showed, their report was to have momentous consequences for the US war effort in the Pacific.

Nice Neal, look forward to watching this, sounds interesting :yep:

:yeah:Yipes! I'm in a time warp back to the 50's with TV stalwart Simon Oakland as the Cavalla's skipper! Good one. As I recollect, the screen image on the OP site was about the size of the TV screen we had back then too.:arrgh!:

Added to my "TV" playlist. YTs that I watch via the bluray rather then on my tiny tablet.

Nice one Neal, I remember that footage as a youngster (I think, not 100% certain).....pity TGW never got to see her in 2008 but next time perhaps.

I watched Silent Service when it aired, and probably saw them all. I don't remember any of them now, except for the few I've seen again recently. I just wish I could buy them all for a reasonable price.
Thanks Neal. |
