New British £1 coin
The government is going to release a new £1 coin in 2017.
This is to combat counterfeiting, as there are as many as 45 million forgeries in circulation (3% of total currency). It will be based on the pre-decimal threepenny-bit, a 12 sided coin that went out of use in the early '70's. The good news for STEED is he can dig out his hoarde of old money, give it a quick spray paint and be rolling in cash!:O: |
STEED wants his head embossed on every coin.

I always had my suspicions he was an old queen!

I'm curious, why did the British Government decide to go from making £1 banknotes to minting £1 coins? Is it cheaper to mint then print?

I found out tonight that we print the polymer money for these countries:
Bangladesh, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Western Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. I vote we hang on to it all and sell it on at face value! |

The US has been calling Canadian paper money Monolopy money for years. Most places other than tourist traps won't even look at it. I don't blame them. As long as they realise that we (Canadians) can do the same thing. |
