Problem with submarine emblems
 

I'm having an annoying problem with submarine emblems.
When you go into the UBoat options in the Career menu, usually if you click the specials tab at the right you'd at least get one option that said emblems, which you could choose to place on the side of your Uboat in-game. But after a fresh re-install (Steam Version) there is now no option at all, it's just completely blank.

I noticed that when I installed the mod NYGM Tonnage war mod the choice reappeared, but if I uninstall it it goes away.

Anyone have any ideas?
Or is it something pretty simple and I'm just an idiot? :hmmm:

It's been so long since I have played stock SH3 I don't know if it even comes with emblems. I know GWX does, also there are a number of mods that add them. I have used TarJak's, it is well done.

Stock/vanilla SH3 doesn't come with that option.

Do you have a link to TarJaks Jim? I have it home, but have not seen it here at SUBSIM, including Maik's Archives.

It is fairly easy to make a JSGME ( mod enabler ) compatible mod:

So create a new folder and name it, let's say PixilusEmblems to make it simple. Create another folder and call it data. Put that folder inside the Emblems one you made earlier. Next name another folder emblems, put that inside the data one you made. Next create another folder and name it subemblems, put that in the emblems one. Almost done :)

Finally take all of those raw picture files you mention above, which are in .tga format, and copy them to that last folder you made, subemblems. Now take the mod you just created and copy it to your JSGME mods folder. Activate ( I usually do this while docked and not at sea to be safe ) and you are good to go.

Your folder-file structure for your mod should look like this: ( of note, all the below are folders as I mentioned above, the only files are the ones you copied and pasted to the last folder ).

PixilusEmblems\data\emblems\subemblems <------ that very last folder is where you put the images.

It's a little bit of work doing this yourself, but well worth it when you see the results in game :yep:

Thanks. I've actually tried this before, and I tried again just now.
But unfortunately it doesn't seem to work, I go into the same place in-game and its still blank with no option to add a side emblem. :hmmm:

Side note: Ive been playing the campaign a bit today and unlocked a flotilla side emblem? So the option for a side emblem it is there now but its only showing that one flotilla emblem that I unlocked with a medal.

Strange... because my stock/vanilla SH3 does have the emblem option as far as I know with lots of choice :hmmm:
I believe I started with only the snorting bull emblem, but later on, when I looked again, there were a lot more.

Here is an emblem collection Tarjak put together several years ago, containing every emblem he could find at that time. Many of them are very unhistorical, including logos from modern American football teams. If you don't like certain ones they're easy enough to remove or just not use. They include the emblem packs created by CapZap, Church, and EvilJester.

Humble apologies but I thought we were discussing 'custom emblems'.

Go into your SH3 installation > data>Emblems and you should see 42 sub emblems and a separate folder containing 8 flotilla emblems.

If they aren't there, open up the folders from the link I have previously posted and copy and paste a few into the Emblems folder.

If that makes them show up then I'm afraid you have a faulty installation.

At the moment I'm generally thinking that Im missing a file, or something within a file. When I activate the NYGM mod, it makes all the emblems appear, the original ones and the custom ones. :hmm2:
I mean this would be fine if I wanted to use the mod, but since I've only just got into it I'd like to play more Vanilla first.

Edit: Yes all the normal ones are there, everything is where it should be.

I'm getting a tad confused now....are you playing stock/vanilla or NYGM?

If it is the former I can send you the stock/vanilla Emblems folder and you can try pasting it into the data folder.
