2014 F1 Thread

The new season is about to get under way with Hamilton on pole and Ricciardo 2nd on the grid.

What do you think about the new rules?

Nice to see Vettel struggling to get into the top ten. And interesting to see Webber commentating.

BossMark 03-16-14 01:40 AM

As long as that big headed git Hamilton dont win, I would like to see Jensen Button do well

TarJak 03-16-14 01:42 AM

Hamno retired after lap 5.

BossMark 03-16-14 01:54 AM

Yes just noticed :haha: I forgot about the start of the F1 season until I saw your thread

TarJak 03-16-14 01:57 AM

Unless Rosberg screws up royally this looks like his race. Commentators reckon Kobyashi will cop the first drivers penalty points of the season.

TarJak 03-16-14 02:43 AM

Big win for Rosberg with Ricciardo 2nd and Magnissen 3rd.

Herr-Berbunch 03-16-14 03:17 AM

Shhhhh! Got it recorded to watch later.

Or I could just have avoided this thread if I was that bothered.

LOL

Didn't watch the race. The time when I set an alarm clock to watch races is long over. I can't see the new rules to be good for the sport. Now we don't only have poor tyres that can't be pushed but also have a fuel limit which will further hold the drivers back. Top that with this totally artificial double points on last race thing and you've managed to kill all my interest.

Seriously what sort of racing is that? Watch your tyres....watch your fuel...use Ers....use Drs....don't get too close to the other car or you get punished...
Can't I have some good old plain racing? I think I'll stick with touring cars then, thanks (and even they develop in the same bloody direction :damn:).
Too many gimmicks, not enough racing.

Didn't watch it but hope Hamilton has a better season than the finger man.

I don't like these overregulating rules, nor do I like to constantly tune them between seasons or even in mid-season, so to handicap leading drivers and distort technical ability and skill to give the crowd more entertainment only.

It's all overdone with those regulations. Makes the formula one feel like a hexfield sports game with a 32 pages book of tables and special rules and moving cars as cardbox counters on a hexfield track in accordance with tables listing positive and negative boni.

Thank God there is Assetto Corsa! :O: What they can do in crashes in formula one, AI cars can do since long. :haha:

Get back to the basics. Have simple rules valid for all and for many seasons. Ban overdone techno wizardy and electronics, get back to the basics. Let tyres and aerodynamics and driver's skill take care of the rest. Get back to the basics. It's about race driving, not about programming CPUs and abusing complex rules as best as one could. A man, a chassis, an engine, four wheels, and there you are.

What did I just say about idiotic overregulation? I read in German news that they examine whether or not second placed Ricciardo (Red Bull) can keep his ranking after they found his engine to possibly having used a non-allowed "Treibstoff-Durchflußmenge" (fuel consummation rate I would translate that).

Not only do they limit the total fuel, but they also limit how much fuel you may use in a given time interval? :nope: What's next? Mandatory additional pit stops for obligatory 20 seconds of nose picking?

Couldn't agree more...the whole situation is turning absolutely farcical

Not watched it since ITV dumped it to SKY and the BBC came along please SKY can we put the races on. Of course you can but most of them highlights, sod that. But like a few people have spotted F1 has become crap with all those silly rules and regulations that have wrecked what was a great sport.

I'm with you on that. Illegal fuel flow? WTF? Can't believe they regulate to that level of detail.

On the racing itself, it wasn't too bad with some drivers obviously not used to the new cars lack of grip. Aside from the top 3 runners there was quite a lot of passing. Dunno that I like the new TERS/DRS/KERS rules though.
