Is there a way....................

I'm running SH 4 on my Dell computer which has 60g HD and 3g Ram. I'm running Windows 7. It works, except it constantly updates which makes it "jerky". On my old computer with Windows XP it never did that. Is there a way to "smooth it out" ?

You can go into your Window's settings and adjust when updates are done. You get some good options.

I'm assuming that you are talking about Windows Update. If you are, why not just shut off the Windows Update while your playing SH4. Then restart it when your down.

jerky when it updates .... stop updating ... and please no further updates are necessary ... hck!

Uncle Levi 03-09-14 05:20 PM

no.....no

It's not the computer that's updating. It's the PROGRAM that's updating.

Updating what? What is changing? Other than framerate being jerky. Please define "updating"

Any big mods applied to your game that might cause heavy file loading?

Alt-tab-ing out of the game (or CTRL-ALT-DEL) and running taskmanager looking at the processes tab might help to identify is other programs are running in the background.

Getting information - it's like pulling teeth!

Seriously you're gonna have to be more specific about WHAT is updating and WHEN. Do you have the STEAM version of SH4? Or is some other "program" updating while you're playing? Computers are hardware so they don't update, the operating system is a "program" so that could update if you have automatic updates on. JAVA automatic updater is the worst, I always check to make sure that's off or the obnoxious gremlin will be polling the internet to check for updates every 10 minutes and hog all the resources.

START, CONTROL PANEL, Administrative Tools, Services. Open that and sort by startup type, that will put all the Automatic startups at the top, set anything with the word "update" in it to Manual or Disabled. Reboot and check task manager to see how many processes are running, should be less than 30 for a lean mean gamer's machine.

Silent Hunter does not update itself

What merc says...doesn't update itself, in fact, hasn't updated itself in several years now...:D
