Hilariously spawning enemies

Hi all! A few months back I picked up SH5 for Steam, wandered over here, and discovered I couldn't use the mods. I've subsequently picked up a DD version, installed TDW's patch (amazing work!) and a few other things, and threw myself into a Mediterranean campaign. Hey, this is quite cool!

Except I decided, for comedy glee, to see if I could repeat my earlier Scapa-Flow exploits in Gibraltar. I rock up, get spotted on the way by aircraft, and basically sail in broad daylight right into the port. 3 destroyers wander off, but don't bother me, and the rest remain at anchor. wut? I spot 3 Didos and a bunch of escorts, and sink 2 of the Didos. Far too easy, but whatever.

Then crazytime happens. A full carrier and BB fleet just randomly spawns inside the base, and starts sailing out towards me. Is this normal? Does the game actually spawn in ships at random places? I mean, I went to Gibraltar to try to pick on some battleships, didn't find any in the port, and then they magically appear? :|

I dislike 'gaming' the game, but if this is how it works, it's worth knowing so in the future I can try to prompt the ship spawn before I sail into the harbour.

I'm running:
SH5.exe patch
TDW UI
Real Navigation
Trevally Automated Scripts
RadCap tools
jimimadrid's map tools

For the SH5.exe, I have:
Hydrophone
CO2 bug fix
Crew wakeup
Contact reports have random chance of calling in wolfpack
Disable intro movies
TDC AOB and Speed dials fix
Broken Stadimeter
Allows carriers to launch aircraft...
New hydro contact types
Units have to use radio to contact other units in regards to contacts
Sub on bottom fix
AI subs spawn crew voice and/or messagebox text when submerging and charginb batteries
No instance removal of destroyed aircraft from game
Air to Air combat
Arillery (Coastal defenses) and anti-aircraft units able to acquire and track

Thanks for the reply!

When units are spawning from a naval base they will appear within a set radius as set in ME2. This radius is normally close to the port:yep:

For you to see this happen depends on how often a spawn is scheduled to occur. It can either be on repeat with a cooldown phase - this is often 1 week so it would be rare to see or it can be a one off event - so you will not see it again.

Ah, so purely a coincidence? OK, that's good to know - thank you! :)
