Question regarding SH4 gold edition
Silent Hunter Gold is advertising added U-boat missions.
What exactly does this mean? Does it put back in the Atlantic in a U-boat or are you still American fighting U-boats? |
You are working for the axis in the pacific. Skipper of a u-boat assigned to the pacific theater.

The 'U-Boat add-on' is Patch 1.5. It upgrades several items in the game. The u-boat war is just type IXs in the Pacific, but the Operation Monsun supermod makes a complete u-boat experience similar to SH3.
You can download the U-Boat add-on from Amazon for $9.99, or you can download the entire Gold Edition for $19.99, or you can buy it used on disc for $17.99. Whichever you choose, if you go to Amazon through the 'Quick Links' link at the upper right side of this page Subsim gets a small cut, at no extra cost to you. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_sa...t%20hunter%204 |
just out of curiosity, did subsim also get a cut when i bought my sh3 and 4 from amazon? i never really looked up, nor do i know where to look up this stuff, it would be kinda cool if they did

Does the U boat upgrade enhance any of the graphics?
I noticed some screenshots on the Amazon page for the Gold edition and they looked a whole lot nicer than in my game and yes I do have all of my graphics settings turned all the way up.:D |
No sonar on Gold Edition
My gold edition has the sonar off and I can't turn it on. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks

On the American side, Sonar is never turned "off". No place to switch it "off or on" for that matter. On the other hand, Radar is "inoperable" if you don't have it when you leave the dock. Even though the game displays the two radar station screens (PPI and A-Scope) they won't work if the radar isn't installed on the boat.....at the proper time when it becomes available. One of the many things the developers never got around to do is implement the radar "covers" placed over the stations to have the radar appear inoperable. Their modeled in the game files, but never put into play. So, you have the radar sitting there as if its installed, but its not going to "turn on" until you have it made available in mid 1942. The later subs will have it already installed and working, after mid 1942. |
I'm in the American campaign. My radar works fine. Using no mods and I've reloaded the game a few times. Sonar simply does not work. I can get along with the auto sonar, but if I go to the sonar room - nothing works manualy. Thanks for responding.

Ok, we're narrowing down the situation.
Do you mean by "mouse clicking" over the bearing dial, the pointer doesn't respond to your new positioning? It won't move as in an earlier sub.....like the S-Class or Porpoise? That's a stock bug that doesn't allow the pointer to be positioned on the Gato interior Sonar station with the mouse (the Gato Sonar is also used for the Tambor, Balao, and I think the Salmon/Sargo as well). As a work around, use the keyboards Home/End keys to move the pointer clockwise or counter clockwise. Mouse clicking the toggle switches should still work for sending a ping, or sending the return results to the TDC. Remember, if you don't hear a return ping....re adjust the bearing pointer a degree or two, and send it again. The bearing position can be off by just a little and miss. |
