U-27

U-27 engaged a Task Force in the shallow waters of AN13.
A Renown class lured the usually cool headed Kaleun to action despite heavy destroyer presence.

Two eels crippled the Renown class which went down. 48k tons.

However 3 destroyers pinned us down. Shallow waters made escape tough. U-Boat is damaged, lying on the ocean floor. Diesel leakage, frantic repairs inside.

Doesnt look good. 6 crewman dead. My LI injured, this could be the last message of U-27.

Its been an honour , gentlemen.

It does look bad-however how much battery and air remain?
Are you using the seabed repair mod?
You just might get out of this mess if you are lucky-let us know.:salute:

Love the screen shots!

What is this you speak of?

U-27 was lost with all hands in Grid AN 13...

Depth charges took out the diesel engines and emptied my diesel tanks.
8 crewmen dead.
Pumping water sitting on the ocean silt 100m below surface.
Until a charge exploded like a yard away and then pressure just killed us all.

It was a good bunch but they paid the complacency of their Kaleun.
Honorable death, but still, death.

Dead is dead so new carreer.
2nd Flotilla, September 1939 with a VIIB this time.
And this time lets try to finish the war in one piece....

In this situation, your only hope is to blow ballast and come to periscope depth and hope you don't broach and hope you can torpedo the escorts.

In SH3 bottoming will not hide you from sonar.

And, stay out of shallow water! :)

Congrats on taking down the BB though.

Type II Boat = 5 torps. There goes ur sink the escorts theory.
It was a bad decision to attack but target was soooo appealing.

maillemaker 02-26-14 09:20 PM

Sounds like you had 3 left then! :)

Strategically that's not a bad trade

How fast was she moving? Could you have waited until she was in deep water?

I had a similar situation in 1939 where this task force of 2 light cruisers and 4 destroyers past over my type II with no escape I dived to the bottom which was 40 meters pointed my sub in their direction and cut my engines. Took an hour before they were well aft of me and I made a bee line for deeper waters. I think the 9 wind speed and my small presenting shape helped me avoid detection.

Actually I had 1, it was mid patrol.
Anyways, it was an interesting experience.

Moving at 17knots, my rusty old Type II bucket just got a glimpse of her, I had only one chance at a shot. Could not follow her. Too fast.

My commiserations on the loss of your gallant boat and crew.:salute:

Sailor's Lament (from 'Iron Coffins' by memory)

There are no roses on a sailors grave
No lilies on an ocean wave
The only tributes are the seagulls sweeps
And the teardrops that a sweetheart weeps.

You did the right thing. One battlecruiser for the loss of one small U-Boat is a superb return. Sometimes you have to fight even when the odds are stacked against you.

Keep up the good work

KH

edit: How did you get 17 knots out of your Type II? Mine won't exceed 13 knots at flank even with all sails set and the afterburner on.

I did not. The Task Force was moving at 17knots. Hence I had to attack on the spot

Kielhauler1961 02-27-14 05:09 AM

That's a relief. I though I was missing an engine upgrade...

Seabed repair mod-never leave home without it!
Works just fine with GWX gold.

Now we need a mod so that sitting on the bottom reduces detection! :)
