If Ubisoft said okay
So just for fun...if Ubisoft said that they will rework SH3 with any upgrades or mods you wanted....what would your wish list be?
Personally I would like a mod that made you have to become like a quartermaster before leaving dockside, and you have to load up provisions to cover your patrol, food, water etc....and if you mis-calculate you run out of rations and have to return to port of make it to a milk cow etc...just for extra realism...working out each mans rations etc. What would you ak for to better the game for you? |
Fix the crew management.

I already have a list several pages long full of what I think would make the perfect subsim. Basically I would like Aces Of The Deep with SH5's graphics. What I would take from SH3 is all the cool stuff that's been added with all the mods.

No bananas hanging in the control room.:nope:
They were't even available in the UK before the war's end, at that was with regular overseas trade! Where did blockaded Germany get them from, Poland?:o Seriously, agree with Greybeard - improved crew management on the SH4 model. Dealing with crew fatigue was not the captain's responsibility in RL. Also agree with Johnfb that mod for victuals would enhance the game, along with an expansion of the qualifications available and more steps in grade rather than a blanket approach. The crew in-game are a rather anonymous bunch and it would be rewarding to have a few 'characters' - like an ace soundman or flak gunner or a navigator with an attitude problem - someone beyond the ordinary. However, the greatest historical aspect that I feel is missing is the interaction with BdU and other boats at sea - where are the wolfpacks? We plod about from grid to grid without overall direction or aims. Other than sinking tonnage and staying alive we operate in isolation. An overall strategic aspect and direction that evolves over time would add to the level of immersion. Maybe then I would actually read the flood of messages that I get... This should include the occasional 'single mission' - land a spy, provide weather reports, escort a blockade runner, rendezvous with another boat to transfer a wounded crewman, refuel another boat at sea or get new enigma keys, rescue ditched aircrew, hand out cigarettes and water to survivors etc.., the list is endless. These features should be easy to enable or disable via SH3 Commander for example. Ah well, dream on. 30 years ago I would have sold my soul to be playing a U-Boat sim like SH3 and I'm just thankful it's here at all. KH |

So did I, until I reformatted. See other reply by me.

I know a lot of people are able to get it working on multiple microsoft operating systems including 8.1 but Im only able to use it on XP so Im not sure what is meant by that comment. It plays ok on vista but I get the periscope ctd occasionally (too occasionally). Ive just managed to get hold of an Win 7 laptop (not ideal I know) and that will not play any games including sh3 sh4 close combat flight sim etc. My point is XP is the most stable os for sh3 in my opinion. I may be wrong and im sure you guys will tell me but I dont agree with the previous comment

Human playable escorts.

Hell yeah...that would be brilliant !!!! |
I would like the whole lot, SH3 as the basis of the game with GWX 3.0 detail and SH3 Commander immersion. SH4 graphics, built-in speech recognition to actually give orders, able to play on all sides not just the submarines but escorts and other surface units too. Maybe make the game modular so one module is the u-boat campaign, the other module for the surface ships and another dedicated combat flight simulator style module. Make it an online game where all of the modules mesh together at once creating a virtual Battle of the Atlantic running in cyberspace. I heard on the news the other day there was a big engagement on an online space battle game (I forgot the name of it!) I think this would be the pinnacle of naval and flight simulator acheivements. I just wouldn't let Ubisoft make it because it would take 3 million patches to get it working properly!

+1 to Sailor Steve.
AoD was my most played game of all time. I still throw on a single mission convoy when I've time to kill but not enough time for a full SH3 patrol. An in-game Nightclub has been one of my most missed aspects of AoD. Thank you SH3Commander! T |

I pulled every trick outta my hat, but got swabo.
Drops to desktop or won't even launch. I might just reformat again and stop updates at SP2, where it was working fine. |
Wolfpacks that respond to your contact reports. Wolfpacks with AI U-boats that fire torpedoes and submerge.
