I'm excited. I played the HELL out of HoI III, but the bugs that plagued it were just a little too much for me and I couldn't deal with it anymore.

People say HoI2 was the best...I've never played 2...but I LOVE III.

I still have to get III's expansions too.

IV should hopefully be easier to get into than III which has a woeful GUI.

I read that they are going to dumb down the learning curve for IV

I hope they don't do it too much. The complexity of III is what makes it fun.

I think that HOI3s biggest problem was not so much the learning curve, it was poor tutorials and user interface, the information you wanted was not transmitted very well. Research was another example of something that was overcomplicated for complications sake.

Hopefully they'll fix this and make it more user friendly, and what's more, they'll leave enough integration room there for Victoria III which should hopefully be next, so there'll be a pathway from CKII to EUIV to Vicky III and then HOI IV, over a thousand years of gameplay. :yep:

Thanks for the "heads up" Red.
HoI2 is one of my favorites. Now something to look forward to in 2015.

Some more info: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/h...9/preview.html

The bit about production is pretty interesting. That's one of the only areas that remained pretty undetailed even in HoI3 though it was a pretty critical factor in the actual war, so I'm glad to see it expanded.

I think Oberon is correct about HoI3's problems, which are not so much its actual complexity as the way the player is required to handle it. It's good to see that Paradox seems to be going for making it easier to control and handle the game rather than actually dumbing down the mechanics. Simplifying things en masse has always been the wrong way to make a wargame more playable, in my opinion.

Good to see that a some here are interested in this game too!

One thing that has always annoyed me on their forum is that people are asking a lot (some are legit other seems futile to me) but no one is asking fo a REAL ATLANTIC WAR!!!

To me convoys coming from North America were far from being a mere detail for the UK :timeout:

It kinda bugged me in HoI3 that the subs were pretty.....well....useless.

I also don't have any of the expansions yet....so that might be it.

I shoulda got them during the Christmas sale.... :/\\!!

They were pretty useless in HoI2 too! (and all HoI2 expansions...:nope:)

It bugged me too in HoI3 and it was kind of too much (and that's why I didn't bother with HoI3)

Such an aspect like the battle of the Atlantic is too important to be ignored.

I've made a thread about it in their forum where I state that this time the u-boat threat is an absolute must, but only got 2 responses so far, I guess most of the HoI players care more about land battles.

(Don't get me wrong, I think that land warfare is great too, but I want more!)

Rest assured, you're not the only one. :03:

(I gave up quickly on HoI3)

Red October1984 01-28-14 12:52 AM

All this talk about how good HoI2 is really makes me wish I grabbed it at the last sale too.... :wah:

I'm sure there'll be another sale here in the next couple months.

In the meantime, I just might crack and get an expansion for III....just depends on how good my resolve is.

Méo 01-28-14 01:02 AM

As you wish!

But keep in mind that as UK or USA, it's absolutely useless to invest (production or technology) in convoy defense.

And as Germany, it's absolutely useless to invest in convoy raiding...:nope:

Seriously, if they don't fix this with HoI4, I won't waste a minute on that game.

If it was my wish, I'd have all 4 of them and all DLC. :woot:

Quite severe for (really) a small part of the wide world of war. :03:
