[HOWTO]SUBSIM IRC Channel[/HOWTO]

Hello! (Please move to the correct spot if needed. Thanks guys :timeout:)
I'm here making this post because it's oh so very lonely to idle in the SUBISM IRC Channel all alone like.. (See picture below)

Anywho. The link for the IRC Webchat is here.
One you get to the Espernet login page, change the default name 'Mate' to your name, and hit connect, this same link is also found at the top of the forum pages. ^^

If you would like to register your name with the IRC Network Name Registration, do so by doing the following command in your webchat:

Type:
Code:

/ns register <password> <email>
Do not use <> in the command text.

Now check your email, and copy/paste the unique command they sent you into the webchat and now you've been registered and your nickname cannot be taken, and any user modes applied to you by anyone can stay permanent.

Next time you login to the webchat and want to login into your account, make sure you're under the same name and type: /ns identify <password>
(Again without <>)

Please note: If you would like to explore IRC more deeply, or simply use a dedicated IRC client for your desktop visit: http://www.mirc.com/get.html and download/install the client.

Once you've installed the client, open it [It will ask to you to register, but it will work forever. (Not cracked, simply the way the program is. Promise:rock: Kinda like WinRAR)]

A dialogue box will open, set your nick, alt. nick and any information you would like to submit, and select ok.

To connect specifically to the SUBSIM Channel, type this into your text prompt spot: /server irc.esper.net -j #subsim

And, see above to register your nick, and and see above to identify when you connect.

To see more help using IRC commands/clients I suggest this: http://www.irchelp.org/

And boom, there you go. Good hunting! (Or chatting :Kaleun_Cheers:)

I'm usually a regular on there...but it's been a few weeks now. :hmmm:

Or you can just click on SUBSIM Channel at the top of this page.

I went there for awhile, until I started to find it boring.

I linked that link @ the top of the page, I'll add it in there, thanks!

I dunno guys, I just always have been a fan of IRC and think it could have huge potential as a successful chat channel :sunny:

Back last December (2012) when this was unveiled...there was a ton of people on there....but by around...oh...March it was just me, Raptor1 and CCIP.

Random people pop in and out from time to time....

My problem is that even being retired I don't have time to just sit and chat. There aren't enough hours in the day to do what I do now, let alone have idle time.

I used to be on most weekday afternoons (UK), accompanied by Red before his breakfast, Raptor1, and one or two others on occasion.

Only been on a couple of times since November and nobody has been in. :wah:

Should be on more regular soon.

It's been a while...but Hunter used to come on too.

I'll try and be a bit more regular. With my schedule now, I sleep as late as I possibly can and there's not usually time to chat anymore before breakfast.

When you're tired, you're forgetful and your attitude changes. When you finally get a decent sleep, you'll wake up to find that you're a gun-hating atheist who helps illegal immigrants.

IRC was quite popular on here after it's initial release but participation dropped off a bit after a few months.

It reminds me of how you'd interract with a robot or computerised programme.

I much prefer Skype these days, you can chat and type as well as looking at your monitor....multitasking.

I've heard that only women are capable of 'multitasking' - do you want to tell us something, Jim?

Tango589 01-07-14 09:31 AM

Can you have more than a two-person conversation on IRC, or is it more like a typing telephone?

I'm not sure there are any limits on the number of participants and it is the same for Skype and TeamSpeak.

It's like a typing conference call. Get enough people on and you'll find yourself carrying on three or four conversations at once. Very confusing, and sometimes a lot of fun.
