Newbie: Help with JSGME

I recently got Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific Gold Edition. I got JSGME and understand activating mods and such. But what do you do when you activate a mod and it interferes with another mod(s)?

in the sh4 mods workshop section there is a stickied "jsgme" thread that answers all of your questions

Not stickied, and is in the main SH4 Wolves of the Pacific section.
JSGME

Welcome to the briny deep RobT1.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean that one mod interferes with another.
There are two common scenarios.
One, when you start installing multiple mods, one will often overwrite parts of another. For instance, you install TMO, then install RSRDC. Some of the files of RSRDC will overwrite some of the files of TMO. That is intended and the game should run fine. It is important to make sure you are adding the correct version of the second mod, otherwise you will have issues. It is also important to make sure you have the mods installed in the correct order. TMO and RFB need to be installed first, then the associated update or patch mods. Then add RSRDC, then anything else.
The other one is if you install two uncompatable mods. For instance TMO and RFB can't be installed together. The second one will overwrite some files of the first and the game files won't work together properly. When this happens you normally get a game freeze of crash to desktop. The only way to fix this is to remove the offending mod.
If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask. We were all there once ourselves and are happy to help.

Now start chipping, scraping, and painting. The boat's looking kind of rough. I think pink would make a good color for the primer.

:salute:

well I just moved it over there because it belongs in the modding section, that's a better place for it and now it is stickied :salute:

I'd just like to point out that this means the exact same thread is now stickied in both SH4 and SH5 forums. It's also floating loose in SH3. Should we sticky it there as well?

I would, for those new players who dont cross over to other forums its something they need but would ordinarily never see.

it quickly becomes no longer needed once a player gets used to using mods but there are always noobies looking for these instructions

but then it all depends on how many stickies you have there now, IMHO at some point around 8-10 it gets to be way too many stickies

Found me on this topic again!! :har::rotfl2:
I was going to comment to Webster when you replied to Jimbuna about SH3 JSGME, then changed my mind.

That is why I put it in SH3, SH4 to SH5 forums. Whatever is best for subsim.
P.S. I started a thread in Dangerous Waters Mods workshop and pass message to Fish.

On the one hand you make a good point. One the other if that is true then it could be argued that it should be in every game-related forum, including the flight and helo sims. It was created long before SH3, and can be used with any game. At what point does the concept itself become topic-spamming?

It would be nice if it could be in one place where everyone could find it, but it's also true that no matter how many stickies there are there will always be people who start new threads because they didn't look or didn't find it. Personally I think that more than one thread was one too many, and I certainly don't think it should be stickied in every forum, or even exist in every forum. That said, I also know that it's just my opinion and I've certainly been wrong before. I also know that I don't have any kind of answer for this one other than general ideas, and those aren't enough.

I hope somebody can come up with some kind of answer. :sunny:

I remember you suggesting this on the SH3 forums to simplify stickies or threads repeating over and over, and have a place to put something like this. I still have not thought of a way to do it.

Just thought of a place for JSGME, believe it or not. Go here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/index.php
Start another thread below the bonus mods.

I could combine information into one thread. Won't take long. I have individual posts about files and folders that basically separates SH3, SH4 etc. That is the only difference relevant to JSGME, other than specific mod questions such as GWX3.0 or RFB, or New UIs for TDC.

That would, I think, involve creating a new forum just for JSGME, as your link leads to the main index page. Remember that people who have not donated cannot even see the Bonus Mods forum, as far as I know.

Not a bad idea. I keep thinking there has to be some way to make a central section just for JSGME, but I also keep failing to see how it can be done. My only idea is to have a thread in General Games and every time anyone asks a question link it there. But every time someone asks a question there will be plenty of people who just answer it, because they think that's easier.

I don't know.
