SH5 downloaded, installed, tried & hated it!

It cost me $9.99 to download SH5 from Amazon and it played like c***.

I was an avid SH3 GWX player for quite a few years until my old computer died. So, I finally thought I'd give SH5 a try today. Got it downloaded, installed, updated to 1.2 by ubisoft and it played like it was junk. The mouse was as slow as it could be; it was about impossible to move about the boat, find the periscope, go up the ladders, fire torpedoes, plot a course on the little map, etc. That's when I gave up and uninstalled it.

I've watched a good number of youtube SH5 tutorials and people seem to have a good time playing this game; but not I.

I'd welcome any comments or suggestions since it was nonrefundable. I could always try it again.

Wait a minute? You've actually tried to play unmoded SH5??!

coinbird 12-17-13 02:18 PM

I dont want to take anything away from the fine programmers who have worked so hard on modding this game. However, the game itself is pretty dire.

Anyone who has stuck it out this long and has not gone back to SH III/IV has my respect.

Mod it. It is taisty when it is modded.

and yeah, what vdr1981 said.... :har::har::har::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

To mod or not to mod?

I don't think any mods would have helped or improved the game play, which was incredible slow and bad.

Will SH3 load and play on Windows 7? Reading the specs, it didn't seem that it would.

If you really think so, then you have wasted your money...But trust me , moding can help and improve the game...:03:

SH3 runs like a champ on Win7. Check the SH3 forums. There's a lot of activity. SH3 is 8 years old, but it's a very active title.

I don't really see the point of posting in this forum then. SH3 forum is further down the list.

I believe a perfect silent hunter would be;

Silent Hunter 3s features
- Complete U Boat options
- Interface and complex but simple interface

Silent Hunter 4s Engine

Silent Hunter 5s 1st Person mode with basic simple keys to walk about and maneuver while retaining SH4 and or 3's key bindings. Also Interiors for all U-Boats available in SH3 that were available to player.

I started playing SH5 seriously about 21 months ago and I have added lots of mods. Check out the SH5 mods forum threads. Try [inf] sober's mega mod, My mod compilation by Fifi, or Sjizzle' mod list.

SH3-SH5 all have their strengths and weaknesses since I played them all, plus SH2 to a lesser extent.

What did you base this on about mods NOT helping or improving game play. There is an equal or larger number of subsimmers that will say that mods have helped or improved game play.

Slow performance. Did your computer meet minimum specs or better for SH5? How about giving us your specs?
Try antilag in download section.

Bugs fixed here for patch 1.2 from another great modder

And while the developers had time to code the brand new features of crew dialogue and immersion of walking through out the sub for SH5; Ubisoft stopped them from further development due to time and/or money. Vdr1981 added the wonderful reworked submarine damage mod.

Antilag download? for very slow performance

"Slow performance. Did your computer meet minimum specs or better for SH5? How about giving us your specs?

Yes, very slow performance. Could barely move the curser with the mouse; thus, difficulty move through the boat and clicking on things.

According to Ubisoft on install, video did not meet their suggested specs. That, perhaps, is my problem.

Where exactly is this "antilag download?"

You've been around long enough I would have thought you'd have read about SH5 first.

Yes, modded it plays very well and a great many people love it. As for SH3 and Windows 7, again I would think you should know that it plays very well on Win7, and again most of the SH3 players do so on that platform, and even Win8.

hello this is my first time posting but i have been on here a bit learning about moding silent hunter 5, i love playing ww2 games so when i heard of this i downloaded it right away. i thought it was crap as well but soon as i found this site and starting modding it became a lot better. i dont mean to steal your post but does anyone happen to know a way i can download more from this site? it keeps telling me i reached my limit for the day and i have not downloaded anything since yesterday around this time. thanks
and i suggest you try modding it before you close the book for good.
take care
