Police Helicopter crashes into pub in Glasgow

No jokes please.

Happened on Friday night, 8 dead including the two Police officers and civilian pilot in the chopper:

It was my friend Malcolm's band who were playing. Another friend of mine spoke to him yesterday morning and he is OK (as are the rest of the band). None of them knew what was going on until they all got out. When we heard from him there weren't any known fatalities. Different now of course.

It's an absolute and utter miracle the casualties were as low as they were. The Clutha is a tiny place and was jam packed by all accounts. If the helicoptor had exploded...well, it doesn't bear thinking about.

Tragic :nope:

There was no mayday call so whatever catastrophic failure took place happened very quickly.

The helicopter wasn't fitted with a 'black box' so hopefully some of the electronic instruments aboard will be able to help identify the cause.

A pub?

Maybe they were trying to land on the roof for a quick pint?
Just a bit of gallows humor.

It stinks, but not the most horrid disater I seen in any news.

Listen to the Chicago police scanner on a Saturday night!

Heck this is something to be happy about if this is the worst of the worst.:D

I am kinda making light of it, and I am sorry, just my way of dealing with tragic or uncomfortable things..

The horrible thing is (well, on top of the other obvious horrible things,) that the corner the Clutha is on is pretty empty. Stockwell Street is quite wide, and there is a large grassy area and footpath on the other side of Clyde Street before you hit the river, the road itself is a cross roads - and a very wide one at that. The Clutha is the smallest building in the vicinity and out of all that empty space the helicopter falls on it. Sheer, horrible bad luck.

There's been a weird atmosphere here over the last few days. No one can believe it's happened whilst feeling very proud of the people who risked their lives getting people out.
