The World's Greatest Cop

Everyone should be like this man, not just other cops, but you and me too.

A lesson to us all.

Definitely a rare one, LA County is lucky to have him.

Disarming smile :)
Police stops go trough very well when both sides cooperate.

We have a similar cop nearby. Not as charismatic, but still has the right aproach. There was one time I got pulled over and when his partner was testing me for alcohol, he wrote: today I give just a warning on my dirty rear window :haha:. Alcohol was 0,00 but my car was too dirty for regulations.

Nice one and a credit to his profession

That guy's pretty cool. I have a feeling that he has something that you just can't teach.

kranz 12-01-13 10:35 AM

Right he just has a good personality which goes a long way.Still though LA and no complaints not even bogus ones in 20 years that is pretty impressive.

Yeah charm school, a .9/.40 .mm auto, a mom who raised him right and the knowledge that once the stop is made, no need to be other than a diplomat; you've already won! Generally I would stop (on base) with two traffic beefs and, if possible, go with the lesser fine one so the recipient feels the 'quality of mercy is not strained' and occasionally let 'em know that I've been on the receiving end too many times myself...and you always thank THEM for their co-operation. Pregnant moms enroute to the delivery room are always let go...:D

And that's the way it should be done. I've seen too many officers get a superiority attitude. They tend to talk down to people. There's no reason for that, just be nice and do your job.

+1. Officers with no peoples skill and/or on ego trips.

This deputy's record is particularly impressive given the reputation and low regard (both rather undeserved) in which the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD) is held here in LA County. The Department is charged with policing the vast unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County as well as providing police service to small municipalities within the county who do not have their own police departments. A lot of thees areas are very high crime zones and are gang-ridden. In addition, the LASD is responsible for administering the county jail system, one of the most violent and problem-riddled in the nation. False complaints are rife and expected. This deputy would be a great role model for the rest of the force...

It should be noted, the biggest problem with the LASD is not the deputies themselves. There is a lack of real leadership and oversight bythe the Sheriff himself, Lee Baca. A lot of the problems are due to his failure to properly administer his deputies and their activities, particularly those in control of the County jail system. The result has been several state and federal investigations/interventions and some court-ordered actions against the LASD. THe truly galling thing is, when presented with these failings, the Sheriff feigns ignorance of the problems ("Nobody informed me") and tries to dance away from the criticism. THe real fact is the problems are in the public arena via the press and media; everyone seems to 'know' but him. Added to this is his odd reliance, publicly stated, on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard in his handling of the jail system. I look forward to the day this joker is voted out of office...

There are a lot of very good, dedicated, and hard-working deputies in the LASD; it's nice to see one of them so recognized as this deupty...

<O>...

I completely agree with you here this time; They should bring in that other space oriented teacher, George Lucas, and the sheriff's cousin 'Chew' Baca, essentially an 'unmodified' Sasquatch and let him take over. I mean really, if two actors from alien oriented Predator can be governors: Jesse Ventura (talk about Hamm's here:up:) and Aaaarnold (screws the help too:down:)Schwartzenegger; how far off can I be really...considering one of the L.A. hills says HOLLYWOOD!:D
