Deck Gun too Loud

I have tried everything to lower the sound from Deck Gun, If I shut down too many things I can't hear music or voices, if on the other hand I don't lower those things when I fire Deck Gun the loudness can be heard everywhere in my home. Forget wearing headphones I would be deaf after sinking one ship.
Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

I guess you could use the external camera to zoom far away enough from your sub's deck to where the noise from the deck cannon is just a dull thud, but where you can still see the action.

Open your PC's Start Menu. Find Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder. You can open the correct file for the gun and turn the volume for that file down, the save it.

If newer PCs don't have a Sound Recorder (mine is quite old) or you want to change one of the Speech files, which are in a different format, you can download a free sound editor such as www.goldwave.com, which will do the job nicely.

For myself, I was aboard a ship in wartime, and the guns are extremely, exceedingly, excruciatingly loud, so for me that's part of the realistic experience.

Modify the output volume on the file itself in Audacity. It is a great audio editing program and free. Simply lower the file volume without sacrificing any other volumes from different sounds or master volume.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions, I had used Audacity to edit
the Cannon .wav but it didn't do any good and then after I looked at the replies I decided to check it again and had about four files for cannon.wav although with differant names, apparently the game was using one of those so I deleted them and now the sound is perfect. Thanks again for all suggestion. I can say of all the forums I have belonged to this is the by far the best because of the people who help other people and quickly.
I salute all of you.

Thanks
