Info on WaW
If you have registered, the fellow running the site will get to you, but this is run by volunteers and the site is owned by 1 guy, who is working on trying to add some new features as we get ready to start the 7th run of Wolves at War.
For folks wanting to know a little more, the basic idea is that the entirety of the U-boat war in WW2 will be recreated using single-player campaigns. The community uses high-realism and dead-is-dead rules. Boats are assigned to a flotilla by command, then assignments for patrols are given by the flotilla commander. In the past, radio communications are simulated by chats for each boat communicating via the forum itself. Reassignments and boat advances are controlled by command, due to slow productivity or difficulty in obtaining new units.
Quite a few of the group are excellent story writers, and it is not an unknown thing for quite a bit of role-playing to occur as you join up in the local "pub" to share a drink and regale each other with tales of victory, or to mourn the passing of another captain.
It is absolutely a must for serious sim fans who want to feel like they really are part of a bigger U-boat war, and it brings a whole new level of play to SH3. The community uses several of the SuperMods, as long as they are on the "approved" list. The goal here is to make a more realistic U-boat sim, not a tonnage-god video game. I use GWX and quite a few graphics mod, from the Subsim download section.
If you have registered and you feel like you should have heard back by now, either PM BdU (this is the site owner and man in charge). Another great contact is Alfred Keitzer, who helps newcomers get up and started (he runs the training flotilla).
Interested in something more than running around sinking ships wityh nobody to feel connected with over a common goal? Come help us as WaW 7 starts up. It's been a fun enough experience it, the only times I haven't played were when my life was too time restrictive to give me enough free time to participate. We are a friendly and welcoming community (flaming and trouble-making are strictly verboten). Role-playing and enjoying the U-boat experience is what it is all about. Join us!
