Iran urged to spare hanging survivor

Can lightning strike twice or is this the devil at play?

Quote:

Campaign group Amnesty International has urged Iran not to go ahead with a repeat execution for a drug smuggler who survived a botched hanging.
The condemned man, named as Alireza M, was found alive in a morgue after being hanged at a jail in the north-eastern city of Bojnord last week.
He is now being nursed to recovery in preparation for his repeat execution.
"The verdict was the death sentence, and it will be carried out once the man gets well again," an official said.

I can't imagine for one minute what it would be like to go through that twice! Knowing what is going to happen again with that rope around your neck, the shear amount of fear would be beyond belief!

I could be wrong.

If I remember it correctly some American criminal that have been sentenced to death was resurrected after he got an heart attack

I can't remember the years and in which state.

I do remember it was in USA and the nineties ring a bell

I'm pretty sure its against Shiite Islamic law to execute someone twice. Same goes for stoning. If they survive, then the punishment ends.

And the devil has nothing to do with it.

You sure?

I mean...has he told you?

That is correct.

This is why it is common to word the sentence: You shall be hanged by the neck until you are dead.

An error in declaring someone dead does not affect the sentence. If, for what ever reason, the person is not dead, the sentence has not been fully carried out.

A malfunction of the execution apparatus, including a human error, does not invalidate the original sentence.

For humanitarian reasons, it may be decided to spare the prisoner the anguish of re-experiencing the execution action. But that is a choice of the state, not a guarantee to the prisoner.
