"Large Convoy"
Just about to set up an attack on an outbound convoy. Square AK55, May 1941.
The second column consists of (from front to back) a Large Tanker, RMS Aquitania and a Ceramic liner! Even the outer column had 2 Large Merchants! There is some huge tonnage in this convoy! T |
...take care - and bring your crew home:up:
+ some tonnage as well!:salute: |

That's when you need a better angel in your ear whispering "just go for one of them for now."

Well, I decided to go with the sink a little vs. damage a lot approach.
I fired Tubes I-IV at Aquitania and hit with 3 of them. Put her down by the bow; she was under in about 20 minutes. As the moon set, I was able to stay undetected on the surface and reload all 4 tubes. Made my second attack run 2 hours later. Fired Tubes I & III at the Ceramic and II & IV at the Large tanker. Observed 2 hits on the Ceramic under the foremast and the stack. Unfortunately, starshells were fired directly over my boat as I was trying to sneak away and forced me to dive. No further detonations were heard, but my soundman heard the Ceramic sinking and breaking apart shortly afterwards. Took a few close depth charges but finally evaded the escorts and return to Brest! 53,136 in with 2 ships ain't bad! T |
