More insanity from the ME

Just when you think you've heard it all, that nothing from the ME will shock you anymore, something new comes along!!:nope:

Read the first few paragraphs from this article, if this doesn't turn your stomach and make you sick, I don't know what will. No graphic pictures are involved. Thank God for that.

You damn liberals trying to redefine marriage.

But seriously, what is shocking is that Yemen doesn't even make the top 10 when it comes to child brides.

A paedophile's paradise it seems. Disgusting!

Wolferz 09-21-13 07:27 AM

I can think of a couple of dozen fitting punishments for the groom.:nope:
I won't detail them here.:hmmm:

The sad part is this piece of filth will be back on the hunt for another bride.

Personally I reckon it was something a bit like this that happened to Maddie McCann, taken and sold to somewhere in the Middle East.

It's have nothing to do with islam! It is a tradition that's older than Islam. and what's more child marriage even happens in the northern part of India and some other areas where there's no islam or are only few percent.

I thought Islam went by OT law, marriage allowed at 12 for a girl, 13 for a boy, close to that anyway. Before that age it's considered rape.

I'm not any type of expert regarding Quran, Haddith a.s.o. The only thing I know or have read in some very old(from the beginning of the 90'ies) some doctorate made by a man who was studying religion and old tradition.

According to this doctorate many of our religious tradition have somehow been interlaced into the Bible, Quran and the Torah.

I clearly remember him mention the female circumcision in North Africa and some old tradition and the same when it comes to boys. in the Middle east .

Markus

Edit:
I know it is a very sensitive issue we are discussing in this thread. Many religious would say that I do not know what I'm talking about and maybe they are Right. I however have choose to believe this guy and what i wrote in his doctorate and many other books related to this.

Indeed there are plenty of things "traditions" that can be traced back to time prior to current religions.A the Catholic Church often adapted pagan holidays it is very hard to erase old ways.

Even the bible the people where following traditions passed down from before the bible existed it is not like they just suddenly lived that way or that they just stopped practicing completely old traditions.

Anyway this might be interesting reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_marriage

There are some things that are just plain wrong. :yep:

Some history:
Prior to the 1990's, the minimum age for marriage was 15 in Yemen. This was overturned by the Yemen legislation and it was decided that the parents are the ones to make the decision concerning marriage of their children. This is an old and established Arab custom.

In Feb 2009, Yemen passed a law establishing a minimum age for marriage to be 17 for both men and women. This law was overturned by the Yeman Islamic Sharia Codification Committee.

Under the Yemen instantiation of Sharia (each country has its own interpretation of Sharia), a woman can get married at age 9 but the husband can not consummate the marriage until the woman is 15. In Islam as in several other cultures, there is a recognized difference between marriage and sex.

The problem, of course, is in the enforcement... which there ain't none. The added kicker is that under the Yeman Sharia, a woman can not request a divorce until she is 15. So from 9 to 15, she is truly the property of her husband/parents. :(

Yemen is a signatory to the 1979 UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. While that convention establishes that a woman can only marry with her full consent, the convention only tasks the signatories with

"
The betrothal and the marriage of a child shall have no legal effect, and all necessary action, including legislation, shall be taken to specify a minimum age for marriage and to make the registration of marriages in an official registry compulsory."

So if Yemen decides that a woman 9 years old can get married, unfortunately, that's the way it is.

But somethings are just simply wrong.

I cannot in any way, picture being romantically involved with someone so young.

Could you imagine going to a family get together, visiting relatives you haven't seen in years, and you walk in holding hands with a 9 year old girl.
They would ask you "Is this your daughter?"

And you would answer,"No, this is my wife."

The whole idea is so ignorant, even if it is a tradition over there.
