Type II U-Boat - More Torpedoes?
Hi all, i have been playing SH3 for a while now, and I have fallen in love with the type IID U-Boat! I love it's stealth capabilities. However is there a way i can tweak the .cfg file to increase the amount of reserve torpedoes?
|
All sources I can find seem to indicate that the IID carried 5 torpedoes. If you added more reloads - with necessary increases in size and displacement and concomitant decreases in speed, diving time, and handling - the boat would certainly not behave like a IID. What would you call it, since it would no longer be a IID?
|
Not sure, all I wanted to do was use the IID (Because I like it) with more torpedoes. Obviously in a less realistic campaign.
|
I'm sure there is a way to do it. I've never done it myself, so I won't say I "know" it can be done, but it can be done. Someone who knows how to do it should be along soon enough. :sunny:

Cheers Steve! :)
EDIT: Also, while i'm on the subject of tweaking .cfg's, can i increase the amount of crew allowed in a type IID at the same time? :) EDIT 2: Been browsing forums, I have increased my type 2's torpedo capacity!:D All i need to know now is how to tweak it to let me have more crew. |
Your answer to more eels lies in this thread.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=187395 There are several ways to modify your default crew. 1. Default method: Start a new player name in career mode. Add crew to fill the slots provided and qualify them as you wish. You do this by starting a patrol and ending it by selecting Return to Base as soon as it loads. You get to qualify one man each time. You can double this by manually editing your Patrol_0.cfg file. In this way, BEFORE leaving on patrol, you will be able to award a new qualification, just like you did AFTER you returned from the previous patrol. NbMedalsWounded=0 NbMedalsUboat=0 <= award as many U-boat war badges as you want NbMedalsFront=0 NbMedalsKnights=0 NbMedalsGerman=0 NbMedals1stCross=0 <= award as many as you want NbMedals2ndCross=0 <= award as many as you want PromotionsNb=0 AssignQual=No <= change to Yes Flotilla=903 NbDaysInBase=35 HullIntegrity=100.000000 DeltaRenown=500.00000 <= give yourself as much as you want NbSaves=0 ChangedRank=No 2. Faster Method: Add as many crew as you have renown and space for. Write down the name of each new man added and of any existing officers and unqualified default crewmen. No need to start the patrol; just click on the office door to back up one screen. Open the Crew_Career_XX.cfg file, use the FIND function to locate each name and change the number of quals and the qualification designation for each man. Note that CREW-MEMBER_0 to 4 are your default officers. 0 = Watch Officer 1 = not used 2 = Chief Engineer 3 = Navigator 4 = Weapons Officer [CREW_MEMBER_0] Name=Adolf Carlewitz Index=5 NrComp=0 Type=2 Grad=7 Renown=0.000000 Patrols=7 Morale=0.800000 Fatigue=0.000000 HealthStatus=0 WasWounded=No HitPoints=15.000000 Experience=314.000000 Rank=7 NrQual=3 <= be sure this matches the number of quals assigned Qualification0=0 <= assign quals as desired (max 3) Qualification1=1 Qualification2=2 When all changes are made and tested to see that starting the next patrol for your player name gives you the crew you thought you had, COPY your latest Crew_Career_XX.cfg file and save it outside the game. To make it your new in-game default file for that type of U-boat, copy it to your master /SilentHunterIII/data/Cfg/Basic.cfg file and let it overwrite (replace) the default crew_cfg_XX_Z.cfg file. XX = U-boat type II, IX, VII, or XXI Z = I, II, or III depending on the war year. I is the boat you get in 1939 and 1940 You will now get this crew by default each time you start a new Player and career and elect that boat type. |
Thanks for lots of info! What I meant was, to tweak the cfg so the boat can have more crew in it.
IE: change the crew limit from 16 sailors to x number of sailors. |
I know you can add additional torpedo slots but don't know if that works for crew slots as well.:hmmm:
Yes, I know you like the type II, but my question is "why bother?" You can get more crew and eels by selecting a larger boat type. You also get larger fuel capacity and a deeper crush depth. Your game; your call. |
Basic.cfg file:
[SUBMARINE0] NrMinOff=2 NrMaxOff=3 NrMinPO=5 NrMaxPO=8 NrMinSeamen=14 NrMaxSeamen=17 |
Editing the minimum and/or maximum number of officers, petty officers, and/or seamen only allows you to fill the existing crew slots with a different mix than the default provides.
For example, you can set NrMaxPO to 100 and NrMinSeamen to 0, which lets you fill all but the 4 officer slots with POs. It does NOT create more crew slots to be filled. I think those slots are hard coded into SH3 for each of the four U-boat types. |
Thanks for all your efforts anyway :salute:
