Spitting Blood!!

Just getting it of my chest, it's that or throw the PC out of the window.

Saturday. Just after 1400hrs real time.
I pick up my patrol where I left off earlier in the week. Oct '39. In square BE29 chasing a large medium speed convoy which I had attacked earlier, sinking a large merchantman. Escorts, two DDs and a Black Swan frigate forced me deep and kept me there for several (game) hours. Weather is awful Cloud, poor vis, 15mtrs/sec+ Black as the proverbial witches tit.
At last the escorts return to the convoy. I surface unscathed. Convoy when last seen was heading SSW so off I go at flank to catch it. I know there are at least three tankers in it. Mouth watering!

So back to today. I work hard and eventually sight a DD which is screening the rear of the convoy. I can't/daren't increase the time in case it sights me and closes before I can dodge.

Slowly, oh so slowing I gain on the rearmost ships in the port outer column, max vis is about 2800mtrs. I can't get a reliable fix for course and speed yet. I just have to keep ploughing on to the head and get it later as it gets light. At the moment it's c0530 hrs.

I've now been playing for over four hours realtime and I'm now half way uip the port column. It's looking good. Then disaster! My wife says tea is ready. I save and exit.

I should say here that in this my first patrol in a new career I have all the realism boxes ticked except the 'stabilised view'. I am doing my plotting on my desk using paper, protracter, pencil and rule. (I could say that every hour on the hour my wife throws a bucket of cold water over me for realism but it would be a 'Porky').

Tea over with and the washing up done, my job, I get back to the serious business; log in start the career and load the last save. All's well for the first 30sec or so. I alter course and then!!!

Yes youv'e guessed it, no prizes, yah boo!

A polite message to say the game has crashed Sorry!
SORRY it says! SORRY, as if that makes it all right.
Not to worry I had a cunning plan, I've saved each hour of play to meet with such an eventually. No flies on Malone.
Back to the previous save....../

Dear readers I leave you to imagine if you can the atmosphere in the corner of my lounge. The blue air the frightened budgies. It is most definitely not what the rich call prayers. I did have the presnce of mind to tell my dear wife to put her fingers in her ears.

None of my saves work.

I honestly don't know wheter to laugh or cry or throw the D*** PC out of the window.

My wife says "It's only a game" but how can she understand. Only here might I find a sympathetic ear, Or.

Is that hysterical laughter I hear in the background?

I can really understand you.
You have my sympathies. BUT this is SH3! It has happened to everybody playing SH3 , me included.
So I shouted , cursed the PC , decided not to play anymore but ......

Here I am firing torpedeos at enemy targets.

So , go out there. BdU needs you in the Atlantik!

Just rotten luck that hits all of us.:nope:

Yup, corrupt saves sucks.

It can happen out of the blue, but all I can do on my end is enable mods only in port, 4 GB patch and have Commander roll back automatically. Also I've experienced with some mod configurations (SH5 external cargo for SH3, additional new single ships etc) that can trigger corrupt saves over time. I don't know why that is, but since not using those mods I haven't had a corrupt game save in a long time.

There are numerous reasons your saves can become corrupted but sadly, sometimes it is simply down to the SH3 game engine.

Don't take too long if any trying to figure out the causation factor...probably better to start a new career.

Ligne Maginot 08-18-13 01:20 PM

Let's try to do something about it. What is your list of mods?

Best regards. :salute:

Too bad!

Never save when near ships or other objects.
Or submerged.

It is the best advice.

Just the presence of the enemy is no longer noticed by the hydrophone, go to the surface and save the game (after leaving their course marked on map).

Best regards. :salute:

I think we all get the "Its only a game" routine from our better halves. Pretty rich coming from someone (my wife) who sits glued to hollyoaks, Coronation street and Eastenders!
You have my sympathy. :salute:

You know what's worse?
Seeing your national soccer team loose the finale in the last minute of the match on tv. And then your wife says: oh well it's just a game really...what else is on?

:/\\!!

^^^^^^

If that were me, I'd choose the Lady :haha:

Seriously, I'm desperate. :dead:

You've all your life ahead of you to rue the day you lose your first love.

I'd swap ya.

Tango589 08-23-13 06:18 AM

I found out the hard way that it is NOT a good idea to tab to the desktop during a mission, as I nearly burst into tears when the big fat tanker I had lined up in my sights suddenly vanished as SH3 closed without even so much as a wave goodbye! :wah:
