Steam/GamersGate question
Since I have a GamersGate copy of Crusader Kings II, can I buy DLC from Steam and still be able to use it? :hmmm:
Or do I need to use GG DLC with my game? :hmmm: |
No, you can't. The GamersGate version of the game will only work with DLC from GamersGate (or the in-game store, which is the same thing); the Steam versions won't work.

Ach...I suspected that. :hmmm:
Oh well. :smug: I really like the game as-is right now. I downloaded a CK2 to EU3 save converter...so I'm gonna have some fun. :yep: |
The only way a GG/Steam purchased title carries over would be if the GG purchased game required Steam for activation it will say that on the information page at GG.Now it does not make it clear that a GG game that was activated seprate from Steam can not use Steam DLC which it should.
It really does not matter that much as the DLC prices tend to be about the same anyway so you are not losing out buying a game on GG and having to use GG for the DLC.Both sites have sales so you just wait for a DLC to go on sale on GG.You can always scan Steam to spot when GG DLC is cheaper for your GG game. I just looked and the prices are the same for CCII DLC on both Steam and GG so you did not lose out buying CCII from GG unless you really must have all of your games from Steam. |

I can deal with it....not a big deal. |
a quick How To...if you didn't know it about the GG DLC and CKII
1. you buy the DLC from the GG store page 2. launch CKII 3. go to Ingame Store 4. Log in with your GG account 5. click the DLC you bought and click Install/Reinstall Also given if you have enough Blue Coins which you gain by making purchases on GG you can buy the DLC with the Blue Coins directly in the In Game Store in CKII. I think I only have like 50 blue coins...I'll have to change that. :salute: |
I like the blue coin concept I think have "earned" a game or two via blue coins. The only downside is they are a share of the cost of each game you purchase and the cheaper the game the longer it takes to have a good amount of BC.Still even if you are a modest gamer you'll earn enough BC to get a full price top shelf game at least once a year and 3 or 4 times if you are buying lower cost games or DLC.
By the way write a review about the games you have (and DLC) you will earn a few coins for doing so.You also get 50 blue coins for simply rating the games you own(clicking on the stars).I think you get 100 for a review.Correction 150 BC for a review looking at my history. |
I preferably buy on release titles via GG for that reason (whether it has to be activated by Steam or not) I mainly use the BC I earn to buy DLC or Expansions of games I already own or the game I want has to be on sale given I have enough BC.

I am actually surprised that Steam does not have a similar concept. The Blue Coins actually encourage you to buy more games from GG.
Of course I guess being the largest digital distributor Steam does not find the need to have such incentives.Gamers Gate claims to be the largest though I am betting that Steam does more business.Though I think that GG is catching up. |
Valve has DoTA. They don't need coins.
