HMS Belfast (Pic heavy)
A few months ago I spent a couple of days in London, and took the time to see some things I'd never gotten to before. I'd seen the Belfast before but never been inside, it was a real treat to poke around inside a WW2 cruiser.
I've thrown in a couple of pictures that folks on here might like, various war memorials from around London and a couple from the Cabinet War Rooms. The full-res 6016x4000 images are here - http://imgur.com/a/lISsg#0 http://i.imgur.com/TpHo9oy.jpg Possibly the most English picture I could have taken. Heard a commotion above me while on the Embankment, and this was going on. http://i.imgur.com/o5KFffG.jpg Submarine Service memorial. http://i.imgur.com/Afmho79.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SCPeTif.jpg http://i.imgur.com/lXkjgc6.jpg The wreaths are from various submarine associations, if I'd known I would have left a SUBSIM one. http://i.imgur.com/PnyMtUp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yohN6kF.jpg Royal Tank Regiment Memorial, just off Whitehall. http://i.imgur.com/H8EunIE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/G2nd6BJ.jpg Interesting Admiralty map from the CWR http://i.imgur.com/Alwv2UQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AEbgOKT.jpg STEED, BossMark - yer money's in here! http://i.imgur.com/QxzcXfe.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BsCEjUR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/69SrRsc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wo72TZE.jpg It was a beautiful day, doesn't come across in the pictures but very sunny. http://i.imgur.com/9vf0TQd.jpg HMS Belfast. http://i.imgur.com/2ZwVunz.jpg Love the camouflage scheme. http://i.imgur.com/IqP7Gvg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/duqKZqf.jpg The business end. 1st class submarine and the crews that manned them memorial. Beautiful. The Belfast is still formitable sight as she sits even today. Pictures like this for someone like me continue to drive home the fact that many countries worked together for a greater good. Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

It comes through strongly when you're on board. Especially standing on the quarterdeck, a mild May breeze ruffling my hair as I look at the service plaque commemorating the Battle of the North Cape, where men fought, died, and burned in subzero snow and ice. Chilling and inspiring at the same time. |
Thank you for bringing the pictures here!!!
