SH5 Ship models
Hi there guys!
Not really sure if Iīm in the right section here but I really do hope so! I have an upcoming project and need desperately two or three german cargo ship models, you know, the ones from the Handelsmarine! Not anything really big, just the usual merchant ship that transported goods all over. The problem is, I canīt seem to manage to extract them, tried the programs described here in this forum but everytime I try I get error messages, surely Iīm doing something wrong here. Could maybe someone help me with this? Many many thanks in advance!!! :-) |
Hi itifonhom,
I don't understand, are you talking about DAT or GR2 units ships? |
Well, actually Iīm looking for extracted models in 3ds or obj format.
|
What? Nothing?!? Nobody here with some good extracting tips or maybe a file?
|
If you are trying to extract meshes from GR2 format units (native to SH5), you should use TDW's GR2 editor/viewer/extractor/importer. This is the link to its thread:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...06#post1757906 Please note that the program is still in its alpha stage, and its author has removed download links from the official thread until he manages to iron out some bugs. Nonetheless, you can download a couple of earlier versions of the utility from the following thread which also contain some useful tutorials: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...47#post1942247 They got limited functionality, but should be more than enough for what you want to do :03: |
Hey, thanks a lot for the link, downloaded already and also tried it out! Well, I can of course open and view the gr2 files with this tool, which is great but I can't seem to find a way to export them as obj or 3ds, any help here? And the tutorials just show how to modify the files not how to export them! :-(

Hi again!
Well, unfortunately my project isn't relevant to any game but it's relevant to the Naval war during the WW2. You see, I'm a 3D artist and through my research for a nice aircraft skin, I found a very moving story of a young Australian pilot, flying for the RAF Coastal Command. The young pilot, attacking shipping off the Dutch coast, lost his life, together with all his crew and all of the second aircraft that was taking part at this attack, eight airmen in all. I was lucky enough to locate someone from his family, still living at Australia and get some more info on this young pilot. The reason for all this is of course because I decided to create a 3D artwork about that fateful night. Not really sure how the scene will look like yet as I still researching what really happened that night, trying to find which convoi was around the scene, don't know though if I will find anything. Maybe someone here also knows where I should look to find out which convoi was under attack that night. Anyway, I needed some reference for WW2 merchant ships as in the 3D world someone can find mostly just Libertys! Now I can see a bit nearer how those ships looked like, in case some of them will be included in the scene. Once more, thank you very much for your help Sir! |
