They almost got us
U 96 in AL 15 on March 23, 1942.
Surfaced at approx. 4:45 am, sky cloudy with moderate visibility. Just get the crew settled into the watch-suddenly "Alarm aircraft". Radar equipped Hudson in the dark, right on top of us. His aim was the only thing that saved us. Depth charges went off as I hit the crash dive. All over in a matter of seconds. No one KIA or wounded. Minor hull damage, was able to test dive to 158 meters. Continuing patrol, but much wiser (scared) now. |
Just be grateful you survived to fight another day!
