RAF Waddington Air Show 7-7-13

Travelled down on the Friday to watch the Saturday events (show was Saturday and Sunday).

One bonus of going down Friday and staying in a Travelodge overnight was to cater for an early start Saturday morning (best viewing points).

A further bonus was the opportunity to meet up with Herr Berbunch on the Friday night after an evening meal.

It's always good to meet face to face with a community/forum member (memories of meeting Neal and 20+ others in Texas 2008) and I think it's a pity it doesn't happen more often.

So, as I said earlier, not long after The Quality Street Gang had enjoyed a nice steak meal, HB duly arrived and despite the fact he was driving we managed to have a few convivial drinks (HB on non alcoholic) and a chin wag...mostly about SubSim of course.

I must say I found him to be a great guy and fine conversationalist (only when I stopped for breath) :) much like just about everyone I've met from here in real life terms.

I know I said it earlier but honestly, I'm the good looking one :O:

I took over a thousand photos on the day but just as we arrived I decided to go for shutter speed priority, not thinking about compensating for camera shake despite having the lens stabilizer turned on.

The weather was quite hot (in Brit terms) 28 - 30 degrees so lighting was okay which meant the static shots were fine but the planes were flying too high and quite a way from the viewing points so my 55-250mm zoom wasn't quite up to the task :-?

Anyway, here goes.....enjoy.

Thanks for sharing Jim. One request, add the name of the aircraft or vehicle for those of us that don't know.

Just a stab an #1: Is it a Jaguar? If so, I think the original maker was called Sepecat.

#2 Is without question the Avro Vulcan, one of the all-time greats.

I'd love to see one of those one day. I've loved them since I first saw Thunderball. :woot:

People can argue which is the best heavy bomber from the early Cold War era, but I don't think there's any question which is the coolest looking. :sunny:

I remeber watching Thunderball for the first time and thinking "What is this? This thing is awesome!"

I've had a soft spot for the Vulcan ever since. :yeah:

Great looking plane the Vulcan bomber :yep: great pics Jim :yeah:

Herr-Berbunch 07-08-13 01:53 AM

The first is a Tornado GR4 of 617 Sqn.

The Vulcan is not only a cool looking bomber but also one of the most agile, not many cold war bombers can barrel roll on take off (although prolly not with much more than display crew and fuel). For me the sound of the Vulcan is phenomenal, the best in the business.

Keep 'em coming Jim, I took no pics on the ground and very few in the air.
