direct x is no longer what it was years ago. You get the edition that came with your OS, bugfixes and patches will be available, but not new versions, since it is integrated in the kernel now.

the main really interesting part of this release is

GPU multi-plane overlay support keeps your gorgeous 2D art and interfaces looking their best in native resolution, while you draw your 3D scenes to a smaller, scaled frame buffer. Use the new IDXGIOutput2::SupportsOverlays method to determine if the platform supports multiple draw planes. Create a new overlay swap chain by specifying the

If the data presented in articles is accurate, adoption rate falls behind even Vista. I don't think 11.2 will ever be relevant to PC gaming. DX10/10.1 never really was either.

Maybe when the next "good" Windows rolls around again, with its inevitable DX update and capable hardware is on the market... but that's at least 2 years down the line.

The gaming industry is slowly shifting to DX10-DX11 and starts leaving DX9 behind (finally) the ''updated'' versions in between never mattered much to begin with...visually you won't notice nor performance wise.

9 survived for so long only because both consoles had DirectX 9 hardware, XP wasn't too much of an issue. After all, some blockbuster games like DMC is still DirectX 9, even though XP era computers can barely even run it.

but again, nobody cares about the technical details, just make the games look good.

It is an attempt to get everyone to migrate to Windows 8.

I don't think Microsoft liked everyone hanging on to XP for so long, so they are avoiding it by making everyone who wants DX 11.2 to move to Windows 8.
:shifty:
I am just glad most games in the near future will not be utilizing DX 11.2 for a while.
