where to buy DVD version of game?

I bought the game through Steam, but I understand the Generic Patcher does not work with it.

Is this the DVD version?

Yep, it shows the packaging cover that says 'PC DVD' at the top. The 'only 20 left in stock' is also a givaway.

Yes.. just make sure it's not the 'steam' downloadable version..

The only dvd/pc packages I've seen here are Steam activated, and you need to log in to Ubisoft every time you wish to play...
I live in an area where loss of internet connection is pretty frequent, I need to be able to play without an internet connection but this doesnt seem to be possible on Silent Hunter 5 which is a shame, I would have liked to check it out. :hmmm:

Welcome to my world Valkyrii! I have the same issues, I'm sure software companies think we all live in major cities with constant internet service and you-beaut wi-fi when ever you want it :/\\!!.

Ubi eased the DRM requirements of SH5 some time ago so you need only have a connection when you launch the game but once running you no longer (apparently) need a constant connection (all though I just can't make that work).

It sounds odd that a SH5 DVD should require Steam activation as Ubi choose to introduce their own DRM system called Uplay. On my end to activate the disk you had to create a Uplay account and jump through all the hoops, but Steam was never involved. :hmmm: What country are you in?

Hi troopie, it was a comment I read on Amazon UK, I thought it a bit odd too that you needed to activate on Steam when Ubisoft run the drm thing themselves...
I know that you can run games ' offline' on Steam, but you still need to log into your account to switch to offline, which may not be possible, I assume that Ubisoft do something similar.
As long as that is the case I wont be buying SH5.
I've read dozens of similar complaints from buyers and potential buyers, I think if this is the future for Ubisoft games they may have shot themselves in the foot! :hmmm:
