I'm Drowning.
Okay, before anyone says anything, I've been through all the other "help me!" posts and I've even installed the little "Help Document" thing, but I can't for the life of me make JSGME work. I had my "MODS" folder generated by JSGME; I placed my "MODS" folder in my "SH5" folder. I also created a shortcut specifically for SH5; the "start in" folder is correct. I download the mods, place them into an appropriately named folder, place said folder in my MODS folder, and then open up JSGME. I activate the mod, close JSGME, run the game, and... nothing. It doesn't activate. Any idea what I can do? I am running on JSGME 2.6.

Hello Vaudevillian, Make sure that when you have the mods in that folder it leads directly to the data folder for each mod (eg. C:/ubisoft/Silent Hunter 5/MODS/OPEN HORIZONS II_full v2/data). Also when unzipping the mods use 7zip, it for some reason works best, other unzipping software may corrupt some of the mods.
I hope this helps fix the problem. |
...Well, don't I feel silly. I suppose I should have clarified what the "root folder" was, eh? >.< I had my MODS folder in SH5, rather than SH5\data. Thank you very much, I'll change that and check back in a moment.
|
Wait a moment, I've just re-read your post. Right, I changed a thing that didn't need changing and left a thing which did need changing the same. Er. Whoops. Again, I'll be right back.

Alright, just as an example, this is now where one of my JSGME's opens to:
"C:\Users\Username\Documents\SH5\MODS\Mighty Fine Crew\MightyFine Crew Mod 1.2.1 Stock faces" However, when I open up that file, it now doesn't display any available mods. I get the feeling I didn't do what you meant, Grizwald. I am new to this, so... |
No problem Vaudevillian, did your game install to C:/Ubisoft/ Silent Hunter 5? if that is the case you will want your mods folder directly in your Silent Hunter 5 folder in that directory. Also when you setup the JSGME .exe make sure it is installed to that directory too. once installed there you can make a shortcut to your desktop if you'd like.
|
The original installation location of my game is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SH5 My "MODS" folder is in SH5, and so is my JSGME. I am a bit confused now, though- what should my JSGME shortcut open in to? I have the original JSGME.exe in my base SH5 folder and a shortcut on my Desktop. The manual says that the shortcut should "start in" the SH5 base folder, but that doesn't seem to be working. (Edit: It's getting quite late here, nothing makes sense anymore. XD If you could subscribe to this and come back tomorrow I'd be very indebted to you, but you've already done quite a bit, so thank you!) |
Damn, I am not sure what is wrong, I know it's something small that we are missing. Someone else will be able to help you, that is the beauty of this forum, everyone helps each other out as if family almost. Don't worry you will get an answer.
If you made the shortcut for JSGME from that main folder you are fine. You may have SH5 installed in a different directory than me but I can't understand why that would be a problem. Once it gets working, it works like a charm, Good Luck Vaudevillian! |
Right! Well! As it happens, I had Silent Hunter 5 installed in two locations; one in a Ubisoft folder and the other in a Steam folder. I tossed JSGME in the Steam version, did a few things, and for all intents and purposes this should work.
...but, I also uninstalled my local copy of Silent Hunter 5 before I came to this solution, so... I suppose I'll know tomorrow. Sorry for wasting your time, Grizwald. XD |

I just deleted any local copies of any SHV info; so when it finished reinstalling, my computer's registry should only have one path. But if my computer is still, er, acting up, I'll give that a try. Cheers, mate. :D
|
Aaand I'm seriously about to give up. >.< There's only one location in my computer with the Silent Hunter 5 data folder, which is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Silent Hunter 5\ So my JSGME is in that folder (the "root folder"). It says that the mods I have installed are activated, and it's in the Silent Hunter 5 folder, so I don't understand why it isn't working. |

you still need to confirm the mod has the correct file path so when you open the mod folder you should see the "data" folder there if it is the correct folder to use, if not then open the other folder you see and if that folder contains the "data" folder then use the second folder you opened. in other words if "water mod" is a mod then it might look like this: water mod / data - this is the correct jsgme ready folder to use water mod / water mod / data - the first folder is not the correct folder to put in jsgme, the second folder is the actual mod folder and what you need to put in jsgme to use its perfectly ok to make your own names for mod folders but the file path must read "mod name" / data |
Thanks, Webster! I got things up and running, so thank you to everyone who helped me out!!
|
Glad to hear it's working, now you can enjoy the game with the amazing mods these guys created and welcome aboard!
