How to mod
Basically I have been playing games for years and really do not know much about the software. I mean I have done a few minor things and messed around with things on the computer to get desired results but really I don't know much about computers past getting programs to work or something like solving weird issues on computers.
I would like to know how you modder's learned to start doing that kind of stuff and is there any suggestions for someone like me to get into that kind of thing. I mean is there a book out there like a "for dummies" book that would help me learn this stuff and get into it? Maybe it is just learning to read code but what is a good way for me to get started in doing that? |
That's how you get into the files you're going to mod :salute: |
Well I know that much, but I am talking about actually making my own mod. BTW, you should hop on and do a mp game with me!
You got teamspeak or ventrillo? |
yes -as Cybermat says - start by looking at the folders and files within the data folder.
Each is called what it does (campaign is all things campaign etc) Look for files that can be opened with notepad:- cfg eqp sns mis pj upcge etc etc - there are many more Where these can be opened and read by notepad - there are easy to understand what it is doing. Copy the file and make some changes - then see what it does in the game As you get to understand the files and how they work together with other files - you can then start to look at modding (editing) tools:- Goblin ME2 TDWs editor etc... Just remember to ask questions - many here will know the answer and where they do not - then they should also be asking that question:D |
Oh, I thought that he misunderstood me and thought I was asking how to install a mod hah!
I will have a look at this. |
