I'm sure most everyone's seen the movie. I think all the locations are in Spain. Interesting none the less. Thought i'd pass it along.

very nice.
yes, all three movies "fistful of dollars", "for a few dollars more" and " Good, bad & ugly" were filmed in spain. Large chunks of "Once Upon a time in the West" was also filmed in Spain, but Leone had a bigger budget on that onw, so he shot a few outdoor scenes in western USA. |

The Ecstasy of Gold. Ennio Morricone, hell of a composer. Graveyard scene... With this music...epic.:) Sorry, one of my fave classic flicks. |
The films where produced and directed by Italians they where also filmed in Italian and later dubbed in English most people do not realize the last bit.
They where called "Spaghetti Westerns" because they where made by Italian film studios. "Get three coffins ready" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeFpM2OEWPs |

The Good,The Bad & The Ugly - Leone's West (1/2) The Good,The Bad & The Ugly - Leone's West (2/2) Can anyone tell I spend a lot of time on youtube? :haha: |
Spain in some regions is very similar with the american desert/ frontier with mexico, so it was a natural location to do the spaghetti westerns. Closer to Italy also.
In Italy the similar landscape to the old wild west may be only in the South, in Sicily, but possibly Spain was more cheap to film there at that time. |
semi-related, but "Django Unchained", Tarantino's "Spaghetti Western" is heavily influenced by the masters, including using the same Morricone music....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr7Qd2ql2WI used in "Two Mules for sister Sara", among others... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um88sLCOZ44 |
I also thought they were made in Itlay ...
I just happened to be in Spain when they were filmed, out of Rota, Spain for four patrols on an FBM submarine in the late 60's and early 70's and with 90 days to spare our blue crew even watched these same movies while on patrol. We had Clint Eastwood all day movies on Saturday along with pop corn and ice cream. The good ole days  |
