Ahoy!! Newbie here!!
Ahoy there ya scurvy sea-dogs, the name's gunsilnger, like gun slinger but purposely spelled wrong. Anyway a little bit about me. First played a Sub Sim waaaay back in the 80s, with "Silent Service" for NES. That game was pretty basic, no 3d rendering, no external view, etc...but I was hooked. I played that game like crazy until my nintendo finally quit, and that was pretty much the last I saw of the genre. Jump ahead twenty or so years and I'm hooked again. Bought SH2 a while back and was vary impressed, and that led me to check out the trailers for SH5 and was extremely impressed, but alas, my PC was a long way from being able to run it. I was petty content with SH2 and learned that a lot of real-world tactics work in game, such as sinking the boat to the bottom and trying to hide your sonar signature, or using the engine sound of target ships to hide your own noise from searching escorts. Now I'm running an all new PC and I'm finally able to play SH5 and all I can say is..WOW!! Just amazing, the graphics and lighting effects are mind blowing to say the least! Now that I've started playing 5 I searched for more tactics and found this forum and its wealth of information. I've learned alot while lurking here, about the recognition manual, targeting specific parts of the ship for different results, and a few other tips. So far this forum seems to be quite welcoming of new members and I look forward to learning more tactics and becoming a better captain. Well, my torpedoes are resupplied and my hull is repaired, so I'm off on my next patrol, until next time, happy hunting Captains!!
