Goodbye My Faithful Friend

http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/3919/dylan3v.jpg

This morning the buna household said goodbye to a true and faithful family member, our Lhasa Apso (we kept him cropped short) dog Dylan.

He was 15 1/2 years of age and during the past year or so began showing signs of his age, slowing down whilst climbing the stairs and losing most of his hearing ability.

Two days ago he experienced a total loss of dietary intake regarding food and drink, then yesterday he started losing the ability to weight bare on his back legs.

The wife and I took him to the vets this morning where the advice was 'to let him go'.

Once given the injection he passed away peacefully and with dignity whilst the wife and I cuddled and gave him our final kisses.

"Goodbye Dylan, Grandad will take care of you until we meet up again at that rainbow bridge"

Love
Dad

Those of you who have pets please give them a cuddle to reassure them about how special they are.

So long, Dylan. It was fun listening to you bark all the time while I talked to your Dad. :sunny:

My condolences on the loss of your family member. This is frequently posted, but appropriate.

Aye, Jim. I remember you mentioned Dylan's age when our pup passed away about a year or so ago. Sorry to hear of a trusted family member moving on to greener fields to run.

Sorry for your loss jimbuna. They're a part of the family and it is always tough.

Takeda beat me with the Rainbow Bridge poem, but I always think of this poem as well when I hear stories like this:

JUST A DOG
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent,
or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought aobut by
"just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch
of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you probably understand
phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship,
trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience
that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look
longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future,
the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts
away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that its' not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being
"just a man" or "just a woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog,"
just smile,
because they "just don't understand."
