Far Cry 3 on steam sale
Just in case you guys were curious. 29.99 USD, Im thinking about picking it up myself!
|
i have had this game for some time now... personally i dont care for it.
interesting enough story line, but the game has so many side missions and detours off the main story that you could play for hours and really make little progress toward the real goal of the game. |
Been looking to pick this up for awhile now. This would probably be a good excuse to do it.

Think I'll keep waiting, as usual with Steam $29.99 translates to 29.99€, which is 6€ more than I should pay. :nope:

Dont get me wrong, its a good game
but there is the search for your friends solving the mystery of the islands ww2 past working for a tribe to serve their mysterious purpose walking / running and driving all over hells half acre to activate what seems like a never ending supply of radio towers to reveal the map finding an ancient knife for some half arsed jungle dominatrix being used to further a CIA agenda forced to work for the criminally insane Australian guy being solicited by half a dozen prostitutes that you cant close the deal with even if you wanted to meanwhile you have to drive all over the island killing animals to make weapon and ammo holsters out of their skins and or selling their skins for money and or playing little carnival style side games for a few bucks here and there and we arent even 5-6 hours in on game play at this point there are so many facets to the story and so many little side missions to complete and participate in that i just lost interest back in January... according to steam i played it for 8 hours and have not fired it up in about 60 days just not my cup of tea if they would pour this kind of energy and substance into a moddable subsim... there would probably never be a need to make another sub simulation |
Just about everything mentioned above is what makes the game appealing to me. Otherwise, it would be just another shooter that would hold little interest for me. Throw in some sandbox elements, however, and now you're talking my language. Do what you want, when you want; it's your world, the NPCs just live in it, etc. My kind of game.
And if subsims sold life shooters or RPGs we would see all kinds of AAA moddable simulations. The obvious problem is that they don't. |

So I fired it up today and have been able to play the beginning mission on what seems ultra, so we will find out when we get into the game itself and action what kind of FPS I can pull at what setting. Im hoping for at least High to very high with 30+ fps. We will see!:sunny: |

But, but, but...it's Ubisoft! :D
Seriously though, i wouldn't mind picking this up. Also @ GoldenRivet: that sounds a lot, and i mean a lot like FC2. If that's the case then i might have to re-think. All good and well with the open world environment and all, and the grafix eye candy, but that's one of the things that frustrated me to no end in FC 2, the often-times meaningless and immensely long distances that you had to travel to just activate the next part of the story. A little bit more stream-lining the main quest would not hurt one bit for us people who mainly just want to stick to the main story. I'll wait for now. |
I must get back to it, I've cleared the first island of bandit camps but I haven't even started the second storyline mission yet! That gives you an idea of the sandbox gameplay of it, nothing is forcing me to play the storyline missions (except for the kicker of not being able to get to the second island, apparently you have to unlock it...hated that in GTA and I dislike it now, but the first island is pretty darn big enough to go on with for now). The graphics are very appealing, the wild animals are excellent as are the fire physics and the AI is no slouch either.
If you have the ability to get it, get it, that's what I say. |
Still little too steep for my budget, but definitely interesting. I still think that the first FC is one of the best shooters I have ever played and I even thought the mutants brought nice change of pace every now and then.
Far Cry 2 is also on the list of my old favorites despite of its shortcomings. If nothing else, then just solely for the fact that it's the only game where I have found a sniper rifle being worth anything else than the game designers' cheap trick of making you climb into a predetermined tower, shooting a predetermined guard who just happens to be standing out in the open doing nothing and then feeling badass. Bonus points if you also get tutorial popups saying "use scope to zoom and press fire button to fire." But I digress again. FC2 was great, but had some serious annoyances too. Like enemies with their skins made of titan and respawning in their guardposts every time you drove by. So to those who have played the third one, do such things still exist? Or is it more realistic? I felt that Far Cry 1 was pretty realistic when it came to the weapons' stopping power, but 2 somehow turned most of them into peashooters. |
