Oh...Uh, was this meant to happen?

So after a bunch of patrols avoiding and generally forgetting I had the 5 25 deck gun available now, I decided "Eh, might as well try it out, maybe it'll be better"

Now the first thing I noticed was of course how it only had HE ammo and AA ammo, and beforehand, silly me thought the icon for AA ammo in general was just an unused placeholder.

So I come up on a merchant, put a few HE rounds into the ship and it manages to die, so I was rather impressed with the gun so far.

Then I come up on another, and decide to see if this other ammo I had was worth anything.

...The HE shell I put in the ship first is that tiny hole to the right, compared to the other two, which were made by the AA ammo...Needless to say, I think it works better against ships compared to aircraft.

But...Is it supposed to be like that? Just wondering because...Damn.

...Also hi there, I just joined basically yesterday. :O:

Welcome aboard! I have not really studied what works best with the deck gun. I usually use it to finish off a ship. Save a torpedo.

Oh I just mainly only use the deck gun if it's a small/small-medium type ship.

I like to conserve my torpedoes for the eventual insane nearly suicidal attack runs I randomly do on task forces/ports.

Tends to bite me in the ass when a small old split has a goddamn howitzer on deck and ends up damaging at least four systems beyond repair with one shot.

...Jeez, you'd almost think they DON'T wanna be horribly exploded and sent 1000+ feet to the bottom of the pacific ocean.

If you play stock, the deck gun ammo is rather off and powerful.

I don't think the game had dud ammo for the gun, but there should be a slight chance that even an HE shell will penetrate the skin and go off inside, in which case the hole would only be 4-5" in diameter.

Welcome aboard, SkyIcewind. :salute:
You are in charge of external damage assesment. Every time we get depth charged, you need to check hull damage. :know:

The supermods make the gun model more realistic.

Hah, yeah it appears so.

I justified it by pretending they accidentally installed a deck gun on my sub that shoots test shells for the Manhattan project.

That makes sense...Right?
