Task Force?
Hi all,
During the "Break the Fortress" mission as I was getting close to Scapa Flow, I was running on the surface at night and got a report that a Task Force was spotted bearing 019. That got my interest since the last time I got a report of a Task Force in was a large convoy of merchants. I could not see it visual myself so I dove to 50 meters and ordered all stop to get a few hydrophone fixes to determine the Task forces course. The sound man reported no sound contacts. I took the sound station myself and sure enough there were no sound contacts. I surfaced and once again I got the report of a Task Force sighted. I closed the range on the bearing of the task force and found two fishing trawlers bobbing around :hmmm: .......not what I would call a Task Force. Is this just SH 5' default definition: two or more vessels of any kind = Task Force? Kelly621 |

Yah, I think so too. I believe one of them has to be armed naval vs armed merchant. But that makes it a "task force". :hmmm:

If both of you are right I wonder if this can be changed by one of subsim's talented programmers or mod makers? It would be nice to have the watch officer report fishing boats instead of a task force. I also thought that "convoy sighted " would be a more appropriate report then "task force sighted" based on the following definition from a WWII naval historical site:
A "convoy" is two or more naval auxiliary vessels, merchant vessels or both, assembled and organized for an operation or passage together; or a single naval auxiliary vessel or merchant vessel under escort of one or more warships. The above definition seems to fit what I see in the SH 5 game world to this point. Just thinking out loud.... Kelly621 |

Many times, 2 or more merchants can be identified as task force! :nope: |
You can simply change it by yourself.. in the menu.txt.. just change "task force sighted" to "convoy sighted" and enjoy :up:

And after, what if real task force encountered?...:D

OK....I am now officially confused :06: I checked the menu text file and found both convoy sighted and task force sited commented. I am still new to SH5 , but in the southern section of the coastal waters mission I found a convoy of around twelve merchants with no escort and I remember it was reported as a task force. Sure looked like a convoy to me. Has anyone had the message and or audio report of "convoy sighted" instead of "task force" sighted? Maybe I am over thinking this, but its bugging me now :hmm2:

I've never played stock SH5 so I can't comment on it without mods.
For OHII Full v2.0: Armed Troop ships, more than one, will be sighted as a Task Force. I've not had armed Merchants, more than one, sighted as a Task Force, only as a Convoy. OHII fixed that. During British Coastal Waters no merchants are armed... it's still 1939. Troop ships will be armed. Deadline for BCW is 01/12/1939. After 01/01/1940 you will start to see merchants being armed. |

Send me a PM with your email address. I'll send you my mod list so you can use whatever you want from it. Print out Sober's mega mod list and use that as a guide with what you have installed now. Install your mods in the same order of his list. You can use any or all of what's in the list. Your choice. I'll send my list off to you in the morning when I get back home from my coffee outting to Wawa.... ;) LOL |
