Oh Man...

I just thought I'd say a quick "Hello"... so, "Hello". :)

It's been many years (back in the 1980's) since I've jumped into a sub on my computer. After some discussion on another forum, and reading some others, last night I downloaded and installed SH3 and the GWX mod (more mods are sure to find their way to me).

Only got to play for about an hour, but I like what I see so far. I've been flying WWII planes in Aces High for a handful of years, and can see my fighter-jock skills getting rusty as I think I'll be under water a lot.

Ok, so it's been a week and I'm really diggin' it! Finally got the rez fix to work right, and am running 1600x1200 (4:3 ratio) on my 24" widescreen - which is normally running 1920x1200. Along with the current few mods listed below and cranking my nVidia GTX260 way up with antialiasing etc. I almost had an accident in my pants with how SH3 looks!

I'm coming up on my 15-year anniversary. :O:

We used to hang out and watch TV in the evenings...then almost 5 years ago I discovered Aces High (see my link in the OP above), and I've spent most of my evenings since then flying WWII planes against other people all around the world. SH3 is just another way to continue a happy marriage. :D

Ok,

Patrol #5 found me curious about the west coast of England. So after patroling my assigned sector (yeah I know it makes no difference for earning the renown), I made my way around the north of Scotland and down the west coast (sinking 3 ships along the way). Just started turning east towards the Irish Sea off the north coast of Ireland and saw a small merchant.

Seas were rough, so I only risked one torpedo figuring it wouldn't hit anyway. Yep, it missed and I was already diving and running away from my ambush point. In short order I was hearing 4-7 warships on the hydrophone! So far, I've been keeping to the North Sea and attacking unescorted merchants, so this got exciting real fast.

Took a lot of damage from the depth charges...deck gun, flak gun, radio antenna, periscope (basically the whole watch area) all destroyed. Damage control managed to keep the flooding under control and repair key systems. After a couple of game hours, the bad guys gave up and I was able to get away, surface and limp home.

:Kaleun_Cheers:
