Enhanced gameplay
 

Hi fellow submariners.

I have a couple of questions to help me improve the reality immersion in SH3. I've seen these changes in 'Let's Play' on Youtube.

1. How do I change crew names? I fancy making my colleagues work for me and call me "Sir!" :D

2. How do I make the crew speak German? Fed up with the English/American accent.

Hello!

Number 2 is easy, go to options on the main screen (not in a career) and set the speech to German. I play fully German language and I don't (or didn't) speak or read a word.

Not really sure how much knowing "Aller Maschinenhalt" or "Sehrohrtiefe" will help if I ever visit Germany, but it can't hurt. :D

I strongly (and I can't express how strongly) recommend Thomsen's Sound Pack, it is just an awesomely put together collection of sound files for SH3 and really increases the immersion. It takes a while to install in JSGME, to the point of looking like JSGME crashed, but 5 minutes of your time installing the mod makes the game so much better.

1. You can change their names using SH3 Commander's crew management feature.

2. There is a place in SH3's options menu to set the speech to English or German.

SH3 Commander lets you change names and ranks, and award all the badges and medals you like. It's the best thing to happen to SH3.

Wow!! Thanks for the extremely quick replies. I've now changed the speech to German. I have spent months modding, checking cfg.'s, google-ing to find new mods and answers to questions that I didn't even consider looking in the game's options!! :/\\!!

@HW3 So I need SH3 Commander installed? I only have SH3 with GWX and quite an ample mod soup.

It was something I intended to install but never really got around to it.

SH3 Commander is about the only thing I consider almost mandatory now.

At first, it is hard to see how powerful it really is but as you start to learn how it works and how to do things with it, you find it is a major game changer.

Ok. I've downloaded SH3 Commander and I can find the 'Manage Crew' but cannot change names. Help? :hmmm:

It's okay I've found what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to edit my crew whilst still out at sea on patrol. I guess even a computer game won't let me 'kill' my crew by sending them over the side into the murky depths of the North Sea. :)

Also, you need config files for SH3 Commander since you have GWX3. Should be on the GWX3 site. And no doubt in here in the download section, or Jimbuna's download page.

Could you explain what you mean by configure files for SH3 please?

Not for SH3, but to make GWX and Commander work together properly. As he said, find them in Jimuna's sig link.

I use SHC with GWX and the changes I make in shc before playing work...medals, promotions etc... But do I still need to configure as well?
