Some “how to fix something’s” on star patrol, kills flags and deck gun.
:DHave been use this forum for a number of years (same handle, different emails address) and have downloaded mod for SH, 2, 3 and 4. Love most I use and usually if I have a question I just searched the forum and I find what I need. But, now as time has gone on and some of the thing that was easily availably in 2008 give or take a couple of years are now not so easily found. So I have a couple of questions to ask.:hmmm:
How, please in some detail, how do you put star patrol and kill flags on the conning tower? I have been using GIMP2 to get the star and flags done…very hard for me, but over time I get something I like….Now to get them on the tower, don’t have a clue?:-j I’m using OTC (patched to 1.4) mod and others, manual targeting, learning still but fun, but on the deck gun I’m finding that there is a bad glitch and that is there seems to be an extra zero add to the negative number or sometime to the output in the program. I mean that if the target is about 1200y away, range by map and dividers, Scope and using the Staometer, go to the gun sights set at 1300, aim at the largest part and fire…hit about 200 feet in front of the gun, but you look at the cross without the gun sight, look up about 30 degrees, then look into the scope and the sight is around 12000, put you crosshair on the same area …. Big hit at the rails. So how does one fix that? :hmm2: "Reposted per Neal" |
Here's a Youtube video on how to add kill flags and stars to the conning tower. The video for the stars is in the comment section as 'VIDEO RESPONSE'. This helped me alot.

Thank you
Hey, I'll give it a try. :salute:Nothing on the deck gun sight problem? :haha:
|
Don't know what to tell you about the gun site. I haven't used it much.
|
Works for me...most of the time
O really, Cap', when I run out of fish and I find a fat tanker or something that would do me much damage before I take out the gun mounts, I’m up and firing away or use just one fish, then finish with the gun on single ships.:D
I’m running OTC, plus some others, all manual, for 1.4 at level hard. Just did S-boat have three patrol stars sank around 105,000 tons, now on Porpoise type, first patrol from Perth and off to the Java Sea, bad place to hunt. But, you know….thank God for save…:haha: Take care, good hunting and thanks:yeah: |
Correction
 Wrong place, it’s “out of Fremantle”… Old age I guess:doh:

Yes, the deck gun is less than ideal. If I read your post right, you are talking about the difficulty of aiming the gun properly at close range. As far as I know, there is no fix for this. |
if you a target at 2000y you raise your sight you into 12000y
:/\\!!NO, just does have the right range …it like someone forget to “bore sight it” at 2000y. So it is a number glitch in the program in OTC, I thank?:hmmm:

Thank there may be a fix in the works
Vic; (he the guy who did OTC)
I want you to know THAT is the Exact reason I LOVE this site…ask the person who made and what happens, they check it and then FIX it, not the OH, this happen or it this or that!!!!:shucks: Again, Thank you sooooo very much !!!!! Carroll Hobbs, PS: can’t wait for the patch:yeah::woot: |
I read this post the other day and started to check my Optical Targeting Correction for the stock SH4 1.4 version (it's been a while since I've loaded it up). I found Carrollsue's problem with the deck gun. Fixing it took me a couple of days, really was a hard one to figure out. As Carrollsue stated, the gun wouldn't fire at the correct angle when the elevation was set to the correct range. This occurred in the default deck gun position, and the two zoomed positions of the station. The gun required a huge amount of elevation over what it should have. I have a patch now ready for release correcting this issue.
I should point out a couple of things regarding the deck gun. When at the default position (seated at the gun, looking over the subs deck), the crosshair will still need to be elevated slightly above the target at distances greater than 1000 yards. At 1000 yards or less, centering the crosshair on the target will strike where pointed. At distances greater, you'll need to raise the crosshair accordingly to compensate for the increase in range. When in one of the zoomed views you can use the range dial to adjust the elevation (as expected) and hit the target where needed. Keep in mind the range gleaned from a Sonar ping, Map measurement, Stadimeter reading, reads the range at the center of the target, at water level. If you want to fire at the hull, below water level, you'll need to decrease the range dial slightly from the found range. If you want to pick off the planes on a carrier's flight deck (it's cool to see them explode!), increase the found range a bit. Adjustments are expected (don't forget the subs rocking motion, depending on the sea state will cause some shots to go off target), but the basic system now works as it should. ============ One other thing I added to the patch was how the anti-aircraft ammunition worked. Even though the stock game files dealt with the AA in a special way, the result's in-game proved to be nothing at all. With a little trial and error I've gotten the AA ammunition to preform as flack gun ammunition, firing a burst of shrapnel at a predetermined range in flight. Below are a few images I took while using a single barrel Oerlikon: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps8bbd7b24.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps02bca864.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...psfdf0942e.jpg This should spice up your anti-aircraft protection!! OTC offers the use of AA ammunition for all surface weapons, including the deck gun. Check out the specs while in-port for the gun's installed on your boat. The "OTC 1.4 Patch_1" can be found HERE, under the the SH4 "Gameplay mods" section of the "Downloads" menu. The patch is not required, nor made compatible, for the "Optical Targeting Correction for RFB 1.4". |
